: Broken Detroit Locker Update

A few people wanted an update on what the price was for the part that I needed to replace in my Detroit locker.

Well... the clutch assembly was $160 dollars plus shipping. By time it got to me I had paid $173 for 1 part. The one I have posted down below. When I called Tractech I asked them If I could send the bad part and get it replaced under Warranty. It was only 10 months old. They told me that I should not have taken it apart... and that I would have to put it back together and send it to them... then they would decide if they would replace it under warranty. The process would have taken 4-6 weeks I was informed.

So rather than wait I asked if I could purchase part number 68270. He told me no.. that I would have to buy the complete assembly and that he could not give me a price. I had to go through a master dealer to get prices and parts. So I called Randy's and the rep there called the exact same person I talked to at Tractech and got a price from him. (What a waste of time!) I was shocked to learn that it would cost $160 to fix one part of many. But I was told I was buying the clutch assembly... so I figured I would get both side of the clutch and the center section. When the box got here I only recieved just 1 side of the clutch (actually the only part I needed) for the extreamly high cost of (let me say again) $160. So I dont know if I got the entire assembly or not.... but I do know that Tractech is a very crappy place to deal with. Their product is definately not bullet proof, their customer service sucks, and their prices are way too high. Next time I will buy a lockrite (or I can get 3 for the price of 1 detroit) and be done. At least if the lockrite breaks, I can buy an entire new locker for a few dollars more, rather than buy 1 part for $160. :mad3: :mad3: :mad3: :mad3: :mad3: :mad3: :mad3: :mad3:

AHHH, 14 Bolt eh... Bummer. I was going to go that route with mine but now I think I will just weld it. Good thing 4wheel Parts lost my $1900 order a few weeks ago. I had ordered a detroit and some 5.13 gears for the 14, and an arb for the 60. So now Im going to weld the rear and keep the powrloc in the front. Should get me through the summer, so I can get some lockers next winter.

Yep I knew someone would say that:D and I know the carrier is plenty strong but I think I will still go detroit because I am going to have cutting brakes and I want to be able to use them and get the FULL effect:D:D:D

That same thing happened to a friend of mine. He blew the Detroit before the full floater hubs. Man that is rough. I am sorry to hear about your misfortune.
