Wow, that really sucks. I'm gonna have to assume nobody burned with it, that would really make me sick. :(

Any theories on how the fire started? It looks pretty intense near the rear storage area, rather than looking like an underhood fire. God I hope everybody is alright; I lost a good friend to fire once. She was going down the interstate at night when a drunk in a motorhome hit her head on, driving the wrong way on the freeway with his headlights off. I'd like to think she died on impact and was spared the agony, because her body was completely burned inside her crushed car.

The drunk driver walked away basically unscathed. :mad3: :flipoff:

I need to go now before I get really upset.

What did the guy do to piss you off?

Just reinforces the idea of carrying at least 1 fire extinguisher on board.

everyone made it out safe. I think there were 4 people in it. when we came to it there was 6 coming down the hill with spent fire extinguishers.

it looks like it started under the hood. not sure how it came thru the fire wall. we were all standing behind the near by Oak trees. didn't want to have the tank blow and take us out.

A real shitty way to spend your day I'm glad to hear everybody is ok, Did the fire spread to to trees? I take it nobody was able to radio the Park Rangers about the fire in time?

Damn, that just sucks:( :( :( :(

I've always wondered, when something like this happens when your way out in BFE wheeling how the heck do you get the carcass out? Not like a flatbed wrecker could come in and get ya or do they have off road recovery wreckers out there?

I'd assume that the terrain where it broke is relatively flat, they'll
be able to flat-bed that hulk out of there... The tow companies
know how to get in and out of holister hills...

We were there too:eek: I talked to the owner and he said that he had just seen what he thought was steam comming from the engine compartment. He stopped and opened the hood and the thing just went up in flames :nuke: He had all their gear for the weekend inside and a full tank of gas.

Sucks! But at least no one was injured.

I had a tranny:mad3: once in my Chero on the way up to Big Bear. I was lucky enough that my buddy Gozuki saw it cuz the smoke was flyin behind me. Luckily I had a good extinguisher and caught it quick. It was kind of a close call though. Once I finish the build up I will be outfitted with two larger models just in case. ;) The bonus was after the tranny cooled down we cycled a case of fluid through it and I drove it home. :D It was running strong for 2 1/2 years right up to the current tear down.

I saw the burnt carcus by the gate as we were leaving Sun. afternoon, looked pretty bad. Looked like a 10 bolt in the front as I drove by.:D

Ryan

P.S. always carry a fire extinguisher and get on it quick.

:nuke: I saw the carnage the naxt day.My freind had just got done pulling the burb off the hill to the school house. The burb was up on a trail above Sycamore camp. The trail was on a incline and was slick as baby snot! Two more vehicles needed to be pulled back up the hill at the same spot on sunday.Do you think those little fire extinguisers could stop a fire like this one?

Like it is in the picture? No. The key is to get it before it becomes like that. It took a few minutes to totally engulf the truck, it started out relatively small. A few seconds after the guy opened the hood, he probably would have been able to put it out and lost maybe only the engine (or whatever was burning). You have to have an extinguisher real close to do this.

Proper extinguisher use is essential...otherwise it's no better than standing by and watching.

This is Cali, where it is juat about totally illegal, because it harms the enviroment. At the point that it is in, probally would of taken a shit load of big extinguishers!

Which strikes me as amusing when one looks at the picture of the burning truck and the huge cloud of black smoke pouring off...burning rubber and plastics and whatnot.

Boy am I glad I dont live in Kalifornia.

Which isn;t totally fair....as i believe Halon is actually illegal all over now.
