Do a search for 'Century Welder' and you'll see they have the Century 131 portable welder for $299.... That's the cheapest price I have found for this unit. Anyone else find a better price??

I'm talking about a brand new one in the box. :D:D:D Not a 'used' model...
Has anyone used that style of welder and how does it perform overall??

used one tonight as a matter of fact....
we were welding on my buddies new shackle hangers, and since you cant control the heat on those damn things, only wire speed, it was really tricky to use. blew a hole in the frame from the century 'cause it was too hot. Its like having a hand tied behind your back if you cant adjust the heat. so we ended up welding what we could, and drove the jeep down the street so we could break out my lincoln, and finish it up. I wouldnt mind the century as a trail repair welder, but I would make my own setup first. If you get one and break something, make sure you have the most experienced welder take the reigns.....:vader: :smokin: :D

On the unit I just bought (model 131b), the wire speed adjustment also tunes the output. I tested it out and it works pretty darn good. Even a novice can make a good trail repair with it. It's kinda limited in that you can't weld a long time. They claim it's good for up to 60 inches of welding. I don't think you will get that much at top speed however... We'll see... :D:D:D
