OK HERE'S THE DEAL,
i have my jeep put together now to the point that is pumpin fuel, suckin air and has spark to ignite.

when i turn it over, it fires right up and sounds great.

problem now is that when i let the key go(to the "on" position) it just dies. IT LIKE I OPEN THE CIRCUIT SOMEHOW, "ON" IS NOT HOT. also i can actually rev the engine a bit, if squeeze the key over to start, a few times.

the starter solonoid is wired up, i have a new voltage regulator and new ignition switch...everything is wired per several different and agreeing diagrams...

could my fan belt just be loose and not spinning the generator?
do i have my wiring wrong?

HELP!

THANKS
BRIAN

How early is early? Do you have points or electronic ignition? I'd say unless you have it wired wrong, you either have a bad ignition module (if electronic) or you have a bad balast resistor (if points).

Sounds like the ignition switch is bad. I had the exact same thing happen on my Wag, it would crank and start up, but die as soon as I let off the key. If I kept the key in the "Start" position, it would keep running. Replaced the switch on the lower steering column and it ran fine after.

Yes, the coil wire has to be hot while cranking and key on....
