I have a few questions about my 79 CJ5 that I thought some of you knoledgable folks could give me a hand with.

1- I lifted the jeep and soon found my stock brake lines were to short. I ordered a set of goodrich braided stainless extended lines. I tried to put them on today and am having a hell of a time getting the old lines off. I tried to remove the top fitting of one of the front lines and it would not go using an open end wrench, it started to round over. So I thought maybe I need those SPECIAL wrenches for hose fitings, I went and bought a set. Tried that and it still was rounding over? WHat should I do, heat? Vise grips? pipe wrench? WD 40 in mass amounts? please help, I dont want to ruin the fitting on the upper hard line.

2- When I ordered the brake lines I ordered new tie rod ends, because the jeep is starting to wander and the old ones feel loose. Any tips on removing these, to I need the special tie rod end removal tool, the fork type tool, ? Or can I do it some other less expensive way? I am going to need to remove my pitman arm, which I think I will need one of those forks for, can I get one that will do both, pitman arm and tie rod end???
any advice or words of wisdom on intalation or removal of tie rod ends? What about keeping the alighnment semi good, I am going to get it alighned, but not untill I do a few more things that would just screw it up agian.

Sorry for the long post,
please let me know what you think

thanks,
tony

dont know about the brake stuff
are you taking the pitman arm off?? if your just changing rod ends you can go get a pickle fork. or before you do that, get the nut loose but not off and whack at the rod end with a BFH, either way should work
hope this helps:)

Avoid using Vicegrips as long as possible. Typically a 3/8 flare wrench (available at all tool stores) is the tool of choice. You may consider getting a flare wrench set, it won't cost you much and it'll keep your fitting from leaking later.

Buy a pickle fork for the tie rob ends, you don't need to get Snap-on or anything expensive, all you are going to do is beat in the thing anyways.

And you can grab a pitman anm puller at your local parts store, there is no way around needing that one. You won't use it alot, but when you need it, there is ne substitute.

Even flare wrenches can strip those nuts, so I usually just use vice grips to break it loose without stripping the nut. A little trick to use if you don't have a pickle fork to remove the tre's is to whack the arm with a hammer, a couple hard taps and it will fall out, dont hit the tre itself or the nut just the end of the arm. Sometimes the pickle fork can ruin the rubber boot.

Thanks for the replies,

I will go find the vise grips and a big hammer and see what I can F up, or not hoefully.
