Local cruiser buddy sent me a link to some old cruiser photo's. Looking through them it looks like Northern California in the mid 70's.

Classic Cruisers (http://home.attbi.com/~mmartinez/classic4x4/)

Does anyone remember those runs, or have more details?

I grew up in Sacramento. Graduated from Encina High in '76, but some details are a little foggy :smokin: :D One shot looks like Jim Olinger's Cruiser, but haven't heard from him in 20 years. Still there was a pretty active FJ40 group that used to stop in at Jim's shop off Fulton Ave.

Quite a few of those shots are the Rubicon in the old days. By that I mean the 70's. One on the slab looking towards (I think) Buck Island and a few up by Caddilac rock and of course lookout. When the trail was much narrower.

If you notice th e"Public lands for public use" bumper sticker seems like some things never change. I'm interested in wether or not groups like the Sierra Club really want to fully ban us from public lands because if they do then what? They have dried up a huge resource for donations.;)

Many of those shots are from the Rubicon. Some appear to be from the little sluice when it used to be passable with open diffs back in the 70s.

I remember being on it during summer in the mid 70s during the week when you could go all day and not run into anyone (or maybe 1 or two rigs).

Armstrong True Tracs were *the* tire to have when I was a kid...Norseman's, too! :)

Speaking of the same period, anyone remember Jackman lights?

I had a set of 7.50 x 16 Gates Commandos on my ex-CDF M38A1 back in the 70s. Compared to the military lug 7.50 x16s, they were "real cool".

Cell phone? I bet you can't get cell service even now in the box. It is just too far from any traffic. More likely a hand-held CB or 2 Meter radio.

Those are great pictures. Continuing this thread, here is one of my first Cruiser taken in the summer of 1970 before I even built a roll bar or bought the first set of Tru Tracks. As for the ugly fart... well after all it was the '70's :smokin:

It is pretty amazing how much easier the little sluice was back then. Here is a pictorial comparison:

That big 'ol incense cedar is till there. The crowd of spectators still gathers in the same place.

Well it was a good long time ago, but back in the days of "no water" in the lake we used to go out to Beals Point alot, so it's around there, but it could also be around Rattle Snake bar,

Holly smoke Jeff - in that second pic your cruiser looks like you had 4" springs sprung over... how often did you flip on your lid with that set-up?
