So my ex-boss has this great idea that he is going to make a temporary chilled water trailer that he is going to rent to the government if they lose a piece of equipment. A chiller is a piece of equipment that makes cold water for a/c for those don't know. He has two old mid eighties Carrier machines that need a ton of work just to make functional, nevermind he doesn't have the time or guys to even rewire/configure this setup. He goes out and buys a 2003 F350 SRW auto shortbed with a toolbox. It has a flip chip of some sort, 4" exhaust, and air box. No gauges, and this guy would look for spark plugs on it if you told him they needed changed. He then picks up a 38' gooseneck and has a ball put in the bed, no bags. 7900# triple axle dry. He is going to put two old piece of junk chillers on there, two transformers to step up/down voltage, two pumps, and various hoses much like fireman hoses. He says it will be 12000#, but the new chillers we set are over 4k and they're a lot smaller and not as beefy.
I drop him off at the hitch place today and he's describing this thing to me. I ask him how he plans to change a tire on it if he loses one while loaded? He looks stumped for a minute and then says he'll call a roadside company. I then ask him how it tows? He says it's heavy and he has to really pull out into intersections to turn it. And it's scary enough riding with him with our 14' trailer since he's always on the phone and has taken out a couple fenders and tires already. He then says he just turns his knob up all the way and it really scoots along. I ask him how he thinks it's going to tow weighing 20k, and he says he'll just keep the knob all the way up and it'll do fine.
I'm so glad I don't work for this guy anymore, I can't wait to hear how this works out for him in a couple months.
