I am new to the whole mtn bike thing so I need advice. I used to run alot but this spring I broke my ankle up real bad and have not ran all summer and have decided a nice bike may be easier on my body plus I could use it to commute to work. There is lots of trails around my area so I want a mtn bike to go off road. I have found an 03 Y26 trek for 250 dlrs it seems real nice. It looks like the previous owner kept good carre of it, but to be honest I really am not sure what I should be watching out for. Is this a good bike for what I need and is the price right? What should I look out for when buying this bike? I don't know how nice of bikes Treks are but that is what the local bike shop sells so I figured that would be the brand to get for ez parts and service. Thanks

i agree some treks are nice bikes...i work at a bike shop and ride a trek y33 from the earlier design, but trek has gone downhill with the y frame design and it has turned into a heavy "department store" bike. im just sayin you get what you pay for.
those bikes are shit! They were a poor design bacck "when it was a good bike" You'd be further ahead to buy a good used hardtail (non rear suspension) for the same money. HTH
