I am going to start a 360 swap into my 79 CJ5. I have a 80 cherokee that I getting the 360 and what ever else I can out of.
I am bolting the 360 up to a T18 in the CJ.

My questions are:

-I have heard that I will need new exhaust manifolds, because the cherokee manifolds wont clear something in the CJ(maybe steering), I sthis true? What is the promblem? Do I need both sides or just one. The ones I need are from a CJ5 with a 304, correct?

-I have also been told I need a new passenger side motor mount. I have heard that the 258 mount can be modified? Is this easy or should I just get a new mount? Will the motor mount out of the cherokee work?

-I think I will also need a fly wheel, throttle cable, fuel line, is their anyhting else you can think of?

thanks
tony

Your question is valid and with merit, however that don't hold jack here!!:flipoff2:

You should try using the SEARCH feature first. You live alot longer ... welllllll, at least you won't get flamed. (as much) :D

OOOOppppps, forgot to say "Welcome Newbie!!" :flipoff2:

good move.

No. I'd dropped a 360 (from a 79 Waggy) into a CJ and have had zero issues with the exhaust manifolds.

Not sure if the chero mount will work, but it's not the same as the CJ 256 mount. Go with the MORE bombproof mounts and be done with it forever.

clutch linkage if you're using an SJ bellhousing.

New axles for when you start breaking the AMC 20 in the rear.

was the CJ a 5 or a 7 that you swaped the 360 into?

also I am using the t18 that is in the CJ, can I use the bell housing from the CJ with the wagoneer V8, that way I wont need any different clutch linkage?

thanks for the replies,
tony

on the exhaust manifolds what i found was a little different was the location of the exit on one side (dont remeber which side) but the swap was from factory v8 cj to a waggy v8 but if you do not have anything their to begin with and are putting in new exhaust you have nothing to worry about :emb:

I am putting a cherokee 360(complete) into my 79 CJ5, I am going to run new exhaust, dual out the rear. Is the desicion I wont need new manifolds?
And I can use the bellhousing of the CJ so I wont need new clutch linkage?

I did this swap on my 74

You will need a new passenger side frame horn, The v8 frame horns are different. You can redrill yours or get a new one ( I have one if your interested)

The fuel lines will need to be rerouted, The 258 is passenger, the v8 is drivers.

Exhaust is fine, I had a custom exhaust made when I did mine so that wasnt an issue. I am using Waggon Exhaust manifolds on my 74 and it works just fine.

I wouldnt use headers they hang down to low. and some times you have to notch the frame inorder for them to fit.

Damnit! I did a god damn search, I dont get crap from it. I have heard so many different things from so many people about htis swap I just wanted to here from you all.

I know I will need:

-passenger side motor mount( where is the best place to get this?, should I go new or will used work? I f new is MORE bomb proof the best way to go?

-Fuel lines ( how do you all do this, did you have to change the hard lines or just re route the rubber fuel line to the other side?

-Throttle cable I have heard that the cable for the 258 is to short, or maybe long?, Is this true? WHere is the best place to find one of these, Do I need to go to the dealership, or can I find one used?

-Flywheel, I think I have got this covered.

thanks agian, and once agian I did search for all you who get so worked up over it, I know you all enjoy answering questions anyway.

Yes, MORE bombproof mounts are THE way to go.

New hard line. Fuel pump on the 8 is on the driver side, 6 is on the passenger side.

shouln't be an issue. If it is, call Steve and get one for a 79 CJ with a 304

-Flywheel, I think I have got this covered.

Yay!
