I was going to try that in sluice last year...I was going to park on the slab next to sluice for 2 days and spray a solution of that on..then go stick the crack line...but imagine getting sand on them...STICKY :D Try...if you do, it I'll try it too :D

Bah!

just head on down to your local fiberglass supply place and get ahold of some MEKP............ Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide ( whew I can't believe I actually spelled it right...)

that's all this shiznit is........ and it's not 90$ a gallon either

it will definitly soften up the rubber;)
just make sure you wash it off and don't get it on your skin ( skin absorbable and fucks up your liver :skull: )

I've always thought that would be the shit for Moab... I figured just run a couple of lines with mister heads spraying on the rears. Spray em down right before a big climb. The brand I was looking at was Trac Bite, I think. Come awn. Somebody has to have tried this!

I wouldnt try it on swampers, if you softened up the treads and gave them bitter grip  bye bye outside lugs. I would be afraid it may be to soft and the outer layer would wear off real quick

A chemist I work with did some analysis of one of those tire softeners, I don't remeber what brand, anyway it had some conventional plasticiser in it not just MEKP. there was something Thalide too. I'll see if I still have the results at work. I think they figured it could be mixed up for about $9 per gallon.

MEK hmmmm that's one of the reasons I got out of air pollution testing (Industrial stuff)

We called it Methyl Ethyl DEATH... NASTY SHEET

I see no reason to expose myself to anything the state of New Jersey actually monitors. (None of tha proven to be carcinogenic by the republic of California crap)

Sure it works, but why?

An old street racers trick was to use bleach. Some of them actually plumbed lines back to the rear tires and used windshield squirters to spray it. Would that work now a days or have they changed tire compounds so it doesn't work anymore?

Why not just smear your tires with rubber cement? :D

well something is different and if you breathe in the smoke from spinning your tires with bleach, YOU DIE:skull:

HAHAHA...what sillyneck said times two, and besides why bother?

Why bother with all the hokus-pokus? Just do a smokey burnout to preheat the tires and go stick the sick line?! btdt!

The secret to this is to soak the tires for a day or so in the compound. Most racing parts suppliers sell a machine that rolls the tires through a tray that you dump the compound in. Ya just plug it in and let it do its thing. Works very nicely. If you were to want something to just spray on just before attempting a rock, then you would want to use VHT and do a little burnout just like the drags.

MEK is cheap and nasty
stay away unless you've read the MSDS and understand what you're playing with.

15 years ago when I first started work
I watched peopple use mek to clean ther hands.

now we have every thing labeled with
the proper info
and have found other safer chemicals to use.

the fact that you will die if you
use this cemecal wrong is a big motevator
to not use it.

on the other hand cigarets are clearly
labeled and peopple still smoke.

some peopple are just plain stupid.

oldest racer trick in the book the sidewalls durometer the same but tread is softer. Circle track rules state they test the sidewalls. SOOOO Xylol works the same way doesnt evaporate as fast and does the same thing.

:barf: :barf: :barf: I come in contact daily with that shit at work. I wouldn't even wish that shit on my eneimes. ANd I sure as hell wouldn't be putting in on my tires. That shit FRIES your brain and spinal coard.

However it would be cool to see some dumbass try it and then go and burn out only to have his tires catch on fire ;)

That MEK looks just like water in a bucket, but you ever see a 5 gallon bucket of water go :nuke: ? NOT pretty. I used to fingerpaint too.
