Since there's no coverage anywhere I'll post what I know...

The courses are nice. Not too difficult, not too easy. This is my first comp on a manmade course, and the terrain's actually nicer than I thought it would be.

One course was timing a lot pf people out. It involved driving up an incline, rear digging the rig sideways, backing between the start and finish gates, and then going up a climb to the other side. Then when people got to the other side they were short on time from how long it took to dig around sideways at the start. There was also a little controversy about whether you were DQ'd if you drove over the exit cone during this maneuver, and it was determined that the cone didn't constitute driving through the gate.

I don't have any scores, but I'd bet Cody's in first, he's been driving as flawlessly as usual. The Silver Climax rig (sorry I suck at names) is also driving incredible, and is probably really high in the standings (close to Cody). Other than that I don't know if anyone else has completed all 4 of the courses run. Jody and Jack were having more troubles with their buggy and 40d two courses I belive, but they smoked one of the courses (1) getting the lowest score of the day. BTW There's a new Twisted Customs Mini Cooper buggy out there. It's the red Fab Fours one, so keep an eye for pics of it. It's running the new Sunray super turning axles, and damn those things turn tight.

Tracy Jordon is driving scrapper and Nick Campbell is driving Shanon's rig. I think they are both exhibition, but they're both doing really well also. (I know Tracy is)

And that's all I got...

I can't tell for sure, but if there's a rectangular frame in there, it's well-hidden. I'm assuming supermod.

Climax Rig (Cook)
Nick Campbell

The Climax crew did an AWESOME job all weekend and could have had first but they had a fuel issue on one course and 40d it pushing them to thrid. Then during the Main event they rocked it and bumped back up to 2nd. Big props to those guys ( I wish I didn't suck with names so much :( )

BTW That is the minicooper buggy that was pictured. Hopefully someone got a pic of the front end. It needs headlight stickers to complete the look, but it's a cool front clip. It's a Super mod rig since it has rear steer.

I would guess the ring gear. After seeing the 1610 stuff that Sunray makes, I would bet big $$ it is not the axles or Ujoints.

Wow. I am shocked that the 1.5" 4340 axle would go before a RCD60 ring gear.

Hal, what was the situation that they were in when it broke? Was it bound up into the chassis? That is what I have been worried about with that rig when they had that much turn in the rear with the Twisted chassis.

They were bound up, and I think had the rear steer cranked all the way. It was a rear shaft they broke. I think they might switch to 300M double splined shafts, though, which should help, but I can speak from experience that it's no fun to have your wekalink be the R&P...

I think Troy is getting his TC chassis narrower in the rear so the rear won't hit the chassis. Damn, that sucks. I think the 4340 will be plenty if they can limit the articulation and keep the axle out of the frame.

A little Jason Berger update for you all...

After Jason ran his first course on Saturday he was feeling a little light headed and dizzy. He decided to rest in the shade for a bit, but never felt better. Andrea, his super wife, with the help of two big guys, walked Jason over to the "Refer" truck to cool down and that still didn't work. Nausea then took over. After resting a bit in the truck he finally felt well enough to climb out of the truck, with the help of a few more big guys, and then Andrea drove him to the hospital.

I know Andrea will want to thank Tony K and crew for the use of their rental car to get them to the hospital - A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED JASON AND ANDREA GET HIM SITUATED –

The hospital immediately took him in and put him on an IV for fluids. He stayed until 12:30am or so and was released once he was fully hydrated. The hospital explained that it was actually sun exposure or heat exhaustion. Not necessarily dehydration that caused his dizzy/nausea spell.

He came back to where we were staying around 2:30-3am and was in great spirits and Sunday morning was back to his normal self! I think we are all glad to be out of the Arizona heat and back to a little cooler temperatures!

Thank you Lindsay!! Also Congrats on the news :) .
Here is the long of the short of what happened.
We helped Tony K. for about 45 minutes getting off of the course we were supposed to run next. I guess during that time I didn't hydrate enough. We ran the course and during the run I started to feel dizzy. We got done and I went and sat down and my wonderful wife attended to me (she's a nurse). Next thing I knew she had got some UROC officials to help me to the reefer trailer. Once inside I started to vommit....about 2.5 liters of water and gatorade. The paramedics would not give me an IV, for fear of me going back out on the track and passing out. Time to go to the hospital. My awesome spotter assured me he would take care of everything.
We were tied for 2nd in series points before this event, so leaving the event and throwing in the towel was not an easy decision. Tony K. let us borrow his rental car (so we didn't have to unhook the toy hauler) and some Uroc staff and Jack Graef lifted my 260 lb. ass out of the trailer...THANK YOU!!
We got to the hospital and they immediatly got me on some anti-puking medicine and started an IV.
Meanwhile my spotter was kicking some butt at the track. He has never driven in a comp and only driven the car once. We didn't have an alternate spotter, so he was on his own to run 3 courses. Not only did he run the courses awesome, but he got the highest score on course #5. He stepped up to the plate and saved the team!!! He was able to cinche our 3rd place series finish. We had a ton of help from everyone at the track including some teams we were competing with for the series. Thank you all!
Sarge interviewed Jess (my spotter) a couple of times and from what I understand, the crowd went nuts on his last course....the wall.
Team Waggoner, Olympic Off-raod and and Team Mountain Dew...not sure what we would have done without you guys....thank you so much...you guys are awesome.
They gave me 3 liters and I was feeling better. I'm still not sure what happened. I thought I was well hydrated considering I puked 2.5 liters. I am still getting dizzy spells. I'll see how long they last. I guess I overheated...who knows. Next year I vote for Pheonix to be the season opener and not the closer :D
See you all at SUPERCRAWL.

Ya right Dustin. You'd have it on 40's and both side bashed in by the time you hit the pavement :)

I like how Jason blames me for the entire barfing thing.

"Here is the long of the short of what happened.
We helped Tony K. for about 45 minutes getting off of the course we were supposed to run next. I guess during that time I didn't hydrate enough. We ran the course and during the run I started to feel dizzy."

And Jess still kicked my ass. Next time Jason gets a broken leg and Jess is gonna loose a foot :)

Are they going to mount them on the roof? :flipoff2:

I got heatstroke or something my first summer here doing a/c work on a roof. I wasn't drinking enough water and got dizzy and really cold. Middle of summer I had my Carhartt jacket on and the heater on in the van with the windows closed. I was out for a couple days, it happens so quick you don't even realize what hit you. Same thing happens to the border crossers, they sit down and never get up.

I was a judge on 8 and helped on 5 when your spotter drove both of them. All I can say is i hope you own the buggy??? If it is sponsor owned you may find yourself spotting soon as he got a lot of attention. :D
Glad you are feeling better and getting over heat exhaustion can take awhile and seems that is easier to do a second time so be careful.

Glad to hear you are feeling better, I was out there doing photos for 2 of the recovery guys, (Cory, and Jerry) but mostly I was out helping Jerry (Orange Jeep) I was sitting in the big blue dodge waiting for "whoops"

If I saw that post about you needing a spotter I would've pmed ya. I am wanting to get into UROC a bit other than helping with recoveries, but I have to be a spotter, broken my neck last year so doing all that thrashing would play havoc on my neck.

Cheers,
Lee

They were bound up, and I think had the rear steer cranked all the way. It was a rear shaft they broke. I think they might switch to 300M double splined shafts, though, which should help, but I can speak from experience that it's no fun to have your wekalink be the R&P...
Rear steer was straight. The left rear fell into a crack the size of the tire. Slightly off camber to the right (weight on the other side) and it still snapped.

I don't fully understand why someone would sell a $13,000 axle with 35 spline 4340 inners and 46 spline outers when there is better stuff out there for the inners. That crap really pissed me off... We expected them to use the best availiable

UROC needs to schedule AZ. for the winter months when it's only in the 70s. Anytime from Nov. to April would be ideal.
