: Tranny Cooler Mounting

I searched and found lots of info on mounting tranny coolers. But, I still have a few questions.

This is going on an 88 Suburban 3/4 Ton 4wd with a 350 and TH-400; which is my tow vehicle for a 5K lb boat. I live in the mountains so there is a lot of hilly terrain and temps in this area average mid 90's during the summer.

Planning on using a B&M Hi-Tech super cooler with fan for the cooling and mounting it between the frame rail and the edge of the body. The channel is about 6" deep and the fan/cooler combo is around 4" thick.

Is that 2" on top of the cooler enough room for airflow or should I mount the cooler at an angle to allow for more room to pull air through? I figured I would mount the cooler with the fan at the bottom pulling air through the cooler and exhausting it towards the ground. 1/4 wire mesh will cover the unit to attempt to keep rocks, etc out of the unit.
