What is involved in using a 9" Ford for a front axle. Seems to be rare, but I have a good supply of housings and my own jig for narrowing them.

Thanks, Ryan

They are rare, because they have to be custom built. Essentially you intall dana 44 or 60 outers in the Ford 9" housing. Its best to only use the center part of the housing, as the Ford tubes are a bit thin for a front axle, IMO. Trcky parts involve a inner seal provision, jigging it up, and finding the dana 60 parts at a reasonable price

So do you switch the 9inch horizonally...ie rear left would be right front or do you roll it to the front, like if it was a low pinion in the rear it would be a high pinion in the front?
I have always wondered this...

If you 'flip it' to a high pinion, the axles will spin backwards.

one thing to think about when making a decision about what housing ends to use: MANY dana 44 ring and pinions have survived broken alloy axle shafts and even broken CTM U-joints... see what I'm getting at? Like has been mentioned if you have the skills to build it the toughest part is finding the 60 outers for a good price.
