This guy at my work gave me a free front hi-pinion 44 from a old ford truck. What other than rear tubes and brakes would I need to get it to work out back?
What gears would I have to get ? Reverse rotation or standered?
Sorry, I dont know alot about them but I know it would help the rear drive angle alot.
Thanks

Sell it. Worth more money as a front. A standard D-44 rear is stronger in the rear, unless you need the driveshaft height.
Would cost you more in parts to conver that HP than to buy another standard D-44 complete and usable.
My .02.
Hell, sell it to me!
running a hp/rc diff in the rear is weaker than a regular diff in the rear. its running on the other side of the gears.it would work but would cost more money to get it retubed and everything than it would to just get a regular rear. so in other words give it to me :D

One more:
Just saw that you were asking for gears. Yes, you would need a reverse cut gear set. You'll be driving the truck on the back side of the ring.

Hey. Already got dibs!
So if it cant be used in the back i will just use it in the front. Sound good?

Using it in the front is a good idea. You're reversing the motion rquired to move in the direction you want to go. That's why it's called a reverse cut.
It's a custom or rare casting. So more expensive. However, look at the price of normal 44's in the magazines. they're expensive, too

Isn't the pig on the wrong side for your CJ? People buy them in the mags for $3k because they don't know any better. You lose about 20-25% of the strength when a reverse cut axle is used in a rear application.
Pig??? Um the 3rd member is on the wrong side yes, but that was never a issue. I can have that moved in a few hours.
Guess its's getting stuffed in the front.
