I have a 88 GMC Step-side with a 350 rebuilt, came with 4.3 vortec, when I step on it I have this really bad gas smell any one know what this might be?

Is it kind of a rotton smell??? Seriously, it's probably the Cat, burning off the fuel that was not burnt in the engine. If it's more of a clean gas smell, I would check your injectors for leaks. might have a bad O-ring..
