Five workshops will be held soon to explain the new Off Highway Vehicle Route Designation process and provide the public an opportunity to ask questions and review maps of existing trails, roads and routes. The Forest Service is formally designating OHV routes on National Forest System land.
The meeting dates and times are:
• Downieville – 6:30 to 8 p.m., August 24 – Downieville Community Hall, 327 Main St.
• Foresthill – 6:30 to 8 p.m., August 26 – Foresthill Ranger Station, 22830 Foresthill Road.
• Sierraville – 6:30 to 8 p.m., .August 30 – Sierraville Ranger Station, 317 S. Lincoln (Hwy 89).
• Nevada City – 6:30 to 8 p.m., August 31 – TNF Headquarters, 631 Coyote St.
• Truckee – 6:30 to 8 p.m., August 29 – Truckee Donner Public Utility District Board Room, 11570 Donner Pass Road.
An overview of the route designation process will be provided during the first hour, and then participants will have an opportunity to review maps and ask questions on an individual basis.
The routes, trails and roads have been mapped for the majority of the TNF. The Forest Service is asking for assistance in determining if all the trails and routes were accurately identified. The maps are available for review on the TNF website at www.fs.fed.us/r5/tahoe/ along with a route inventory form. If people know of a trail that is not on the map, they should download the map and form, draw in the trail, fill out the form, and take to local Forest Service office.
