Are there an good writeups on rebuilding a front and rear dana 44 from start to finish? I found some good info here in the tech section. Is there a diagram or pdf of the rear axle to go with the documents for the front?

You could read over the D60 tech articles since its basically the same axle rebuild as the D44.

Here's a hub rebuild....kinda....and hub install.
http://www.keystonekrawlers.com/Mods/Jeep/DANA44%20Hub/dana44_hub_rebuild.htm

I had a professional do the stuff in the diff - rebuild kit, seals, bearings, new gears, lockers, etc. Wanted that shit done RIGHT.

But as for the brakes, hubs, and shit...that stuff is easy. Just do some google research. If I can do it (somewhat mechanical female) - then you can do it.

What exactly do you need to know??

Yeah, I found that link earlier through google. Im really trying to find some diagrams that show all the parts to both the front and rear dana 44's. I found the pictures for the front here in the tech section. Id also like to learn more about rebuild the rear drum brakes. Various torque specs would be nice too.

Factory service manual ( or even a chiltons or Haynes) for a vehicle with Dana 44s.

For the brakes just take apart one side and put it back together using the other side as a guide on how it goes together. If you have basic mechanical skills you can do it.

Some things you have to learn like sex. No instructions, just get in there and figure out where everything goes.

Yeah, I guess I just have to jump in and rip them both apart. Should be fun as long as I can remember how they came apart. I think Ill take plenty of pictures. Any precautions with the asbestos?
