: How big of tires for my TJ?

I am wanting to go with 38" TSL-SXs on my TJ. I need to have 10" wide beadlocks because of my huge warn hubs up front that stick out a mile.

What is the best tire width for this rim and my TJ that still has most of its sheetmetal, except I flat fendered the front? I am trying to decide between the 38x12.50x15 or 38.5x14.50x15.

Oh, my lift is Rubicon's 5" long arm kit. My Jeep is really pretty tall now and my 35" tires are puny on it. What I am really trying to figure out is what is the maximum size I can get without sawalling my sheetmetal because the tires scrub when flexed.

Thanks for any help or advice.

you must have more than 5" lift... my TJ was 6" susp, 2" body and cleared perfectly 36x12.50's

What axles you running? What width?
Here is mine with RE long arm (5.5") and 2" body lift and 38.5x14.5 SX's It has 64.5" wide axles and 7" terra flares.

I went from a cheap 4" lift kit to the whole rubicon extreme long arm kit, that is supposedly 5.5". I also have a 1" body lift. My Jeep is way taller now than it was with the old 4" and 1" body. I probably have 8 or 9 inches above my 35" tires and the fenders. Oh, I have big axles now. The tubes are an inch bigger than stock and the spring perches are an inch higher. I guess it adds up. All I know is that after I installed the axles and that lift, I was amazed at how big my jeep got.

Axle width is 63.5. Do those 14.5 sxs scrub anywhere? It doesn't look like they do. The 14.50 is what I really want to go with, I just don't wany issues.

Nope, no-where. They work great.

the only way to accurately answer your question is to flex it on a ramp to the max... measure the distance from the top of the tire to the closest point on the fender or body and multiply by 2 add this figure to your existing tire height and that will give you the tallest tire you can run without rubbing... (if you dont normally run a sway bar dont run one for the test mentioned above... my guess is you will rub your 35's (with the long arm kit)

nasvik runs 38x12.50s on 10" beadlocks. (or at least had these last time I saw him).

checkout his rig at www.jeepshots.com to see how he fits his. He's has the same R/E 6" but has a body lift too.

He had the 38s before he went to the 10" beadlocks and commented he may go larger in the future and that's why he went with 10" rims.

Is there any downside to running 12.50 sx tires on 10 inch beadlocks? Like, would the inner bead have a higher tendancy to pop off because the tire is stretching out? It looks like 12.50 sxs are pretty wide for their size. I don't see a whole lot of noticeable difference between the 12.50s and 14.50s. Anybody confirm that?

Oh, I haven't done much measuring of the setup on the ramp, but I have run it up the ramp in all directions. Nothing scrubs at all with the 35s now.

I'm probably closest to you...

I have a 63" Hybrid HP 9"/60 front axle with large Warn hubs.

I use Champion beadlocked AR Atlas wheels, which are 15x10" @ 3.75" BS.

I have an RE long arm kit but the front axle adds 2" to the height.

In the rear I have a 61" Currie HP 9" (soon to be replaced by a 63" D60).

I added a 1" spacer to the RE kit in the rear and use the stock rubber up front.

I also have a 1.25" JKS BL.

I setup the suspension on a ramp over many months and had it working great with 37" SSRs.

I added the 38x14.50 TSL/SXs a couple of weeks ago and immediately put it on a ramp in both directions.
It was perfect except for the rear stock fender got a bit crumpled and it hit the sheet metal inside the rear fender well.
There was no problem with the front.

I removed the fender linings in the rear, cut and bludgeoned the fender well lip out of the way and installed Warn 7" flares.

Now it doesn't rub anywhere and looks fawkin cool :)

The TSL/SX are a total bitch to:

a) Get one thats actually close to round
b) Balance

I had 36" tsl on my jeep previously and tried 38 tsl they would have fit with alittle trimming with my old lift(rubicon 5") hope that helps alittle...

Alright, I think that I am getting the 38.5x14.50x15 sxs. Bludgeoning the rear fender well sound fun. I already have the wide warn flares.

How do you balance these big pigs?

Where is the cheapest place to get them?

Todd, are you running 39.5 TSLs now? How do they fit? That is my other tire option. My buddy just got a set. When my beadlocks show up, I am going to go put his tires on my beadlocks and mount them to see how they clear. He has 8 bolt rims, so I have to switch them to my 5 bolt rims.
