It is safe to say that you will not be going in thru Loon side, as for a first timer, a day trip to the springs is quite a daunting task. There will be plenty of fellow wheelers up there this weekend as it is the last long weekend of summer. If you want to have a good time, go in thru Loon and enjoy the Taco feed that is being put on by the TDO, and remember PACK IT IN, PACK IT OUT.

smallboarder7,
You didn't mentioin which way you are coming in/out. As mentioned above you should carry extra birfierlds, tools for changing them (including files, saw blades, hammer for removing the broken ones) and whatever other stuff you may need to fix your junk on the trail. If you have limited experience 4 wheeling then you should really think about hooking up with some other wheelers for this trip. You will need there advice and tips to make it a successfull trip. You should be able to find some other very capable Toyota people to wheel with without allot of effort. Try posting in the Toyota area of this board.

Thanks for the plug Rick;) Yes, please stop in and drop a few bucks to support the 'Con!!!
Back on Subject: This is probably not the best weekend to make your first trip to the 'Con, especially if you're traveling alone. That being said, if you do go be curtious and don't block the trail. Ask for help when you need it and don't be surprised if people raz you a little. Most important of all, buckle up, have fun and stay safe;)

I'd bring someone whos been up there before. I do have some words of advice. STAY ON THE TRAIL!, PICK UP YOUR TRASH AND OTHERS AND TREAD LIGHTLY!!!!!!!!!
If you don't know what "Tread Lightly" means stay home or go to Hollister.

Your rig sounds cabable enough, but it also takes an experienced driver to do the Rubicon safely. You say you just got this rig and that you are looking at doing the Rubicon for it's 1st run, so I'm making an assumption that you don't have a lot of rock crawling experience. If this is your 1st trail rig I'd suggest some more moderate trails until you have gained more experience. If it's not your 1st, then those trails would give a chance to get more familiar with your new rig. Look into trails like the Deer Valley trail up by Blue Lakes. After testing your skills on that type of trail, THEN do the Rubicon. And when you do the Rubicon, do yourself a favor and go with someone who has done it before.

Most of you know the rules here about language. Do not quote it and make it more difficuly for me to track please.
As for the trail it has been real quiet the past two weeks and I'd like to see it stay that way for a while. The proliferation of off trail activities is/was getting to be rediculously absurd. I yelled at a guy driving up the hill from gatekeeper to the RIGHT!! a week ago. He is darn lucky I was not able to get good evidence of it but he did get an earful from me :mad3:
I have been on the trail alot the past 3 weeks and I'll tell you from firsthand experience, we have got to get it under control guys or it will get even uglier than it already is. Trash is under control guys, kudos to those who pick it up, but let's not forget the real issue here.
Getting off the trail intentionally is just dumb

Bring tow rope, and someone to attach it to. Bring a come along and be sure to have winch points on your rig. Take your time and don't be afraid to get a spotter/stack rocks.
Your much more setup that I was for years and I ran the trail nearly every weekend, but experience is 75%..

F'n whimps and your high tech sh*t! Go have a good time and deal with it! In the before time - gosh - I don't know what we did - no cell phone, no GPS, no sat phone, no forum - man we must have been like cave man! Go have some fun and deal with it - and the rest of you - grow up!!

I agree. Go have some fun and be careful. Most important thing is to pack it out.
What a bunch of 4x4 elitists. :shaking:

a few bad apples :shaking:
Times have changed. Noone takes a stock jeep through the con anymore, and If they do they ruin the fun for some of us sitting on 33's +, with lockers and low gears. There are too many people with 3k and a yota who don't know how to wheel, and trash the trail.
Keep the abuse down and we will have one of the most beautiful places in the world to wheel stay open to the public, without restrictions. Keep up your attitude and it will start as limited use, then pay use, then total closure. :mad3: Get a clue :shaking:

I personally witnessed over 120 stock Jeeps traverse the Rubicon this year. I did it myself in one at least 10 times this year.

Learn how to drive! Gosh - I don't know what we did when a 31" tire was "big" - and no one had lockers!! Yeah - I agree that times have changed - I carry out my crap - but it's still the rubicon and given that we all have a life span of about 100 years there's going to be a first time for everyone. It's not a freeway and if you can't deal with a little waiting stay on Interstate 80 and head to reno!!

I find the impatience one of the hardest things to deal with myself. I do not go to the Rubicon to "be in a hurry" to get anywhere. I guess that makes me different, Oh well. Hopefully, things will get better now that there is so much less traffic now.

I find that the more i modify my rig, the farther away and harder it is to find fun places to go. All my nearby trails are boring now, unless it's snowing. I may get a stock Jeepster just to bash it up and have a more challenging ride.

I just went to the Rubicon for the first time, this last weekend (Labor Day), through the back and as far as the springs. We rode in with a friend and I had a great time, and I think I'm ready for my first rig, so I can run with the big boys! I never knew how much fun it could be, although we spent some time picking up other peoples trash, it was well worth it. Let's just hope we can all pack it in and out for the future.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that your are NOT changing the trail to fit your vehicle. IMHO, that would be pathetic either way -- making the trail HARDER or making the trail EASIER.
You want a challenge?
* Unlock the locking diff, if you're running an ARB, E-Locker, or the like
* Run more air in your tires
* Try driving that Jeepster *without* bashing it up
If you're after a challenge, either accept that you're gonna have to drive farther to get it, or build your rig to support varying levels of challenge.
