A freind of mine drives a 99? Dodge Ram 2500 and can not seem to keep front brakes on this thing. It seems to me his rear brakes just arent doing there job. Any ideas, like rear disk convertions?

I think I read an artical in one of the big mags about what to look for on Dodges and how to fix some problems, and that rear brakes were covered in it. I cant find that artical now and he need some help.

94 to 99 Dana 60 brakes suck. Thay are a single piston caliper setup. 00 they went with a dual piston caliper setup and seems to work/hold up better. EGR makes a brake upgrade for the 94 to 99 60 along with rear disc conversion for the rear

The rear brakes come out of adjustment alot.

Adjusting them every 3k, and not using the parking break I found REALLY helps.

Also, make sure to use quality brake pads and rotors up front.

Also there is a TSB out there for replacing the rear brake proportioning valve with a solid line.

additionally chevy 1 ton rear 30 mm wheel cylinders fit right in place of the factory 24mm units the improvement is huge.

You've done your home work (and mine). If we skip the $1000 kit are the valve and cyl enouf? Do you do both or is that to much? I would still like to learn more about the kit, like is it worth it?

A bunch of guys on NWbombers site swear by the bigger rear cyl. I'm going to try it sometime soon myself. The NAPA# is 4837337, and are under $20 each.

If you want to look it up by application, it fits a 95 GM 1 ton dually 2 wd. The part # is 4637337, not 48xxxxx. It's a simple bolt in that makes the rears take up more of the load. The truck will stop a whole lot better!

Does that upgrade work for the 94 1500 rams as well or only on the 2500?

They recommended the 27mm upgrade rear wheel cylinders but speaking from experience the 30mm's are a huge improvement and work better than jsut the 27's

worth the money unless you have a rear disk brake axle and proportioning valve setup from a later rig
