In 1999 and 2000, opponents of Fee Demo organized actions around the
country to protest the program. The organizing work for those events
was done entirely by Scott Silver. Last year, there was no day of
action due to Scott being overwhelmed with other work. This year, Scott
has delegated the organizing work, and now we are moving forward with
plans to make this the biggest and most successful showing of solidarity
in promoting access for all Americans to public lands, untarnished by
extravagant facilities and improvements run by private sector
companies. The major thrust of our efforts, of course, is opposition to
Fee Demo, and our nation-wide action will be held on Saturday, June
15th.

The main objective of this Day of Action will be to focus media
attention on the issue in an effort to bring it more into the public
light. We will thereby undercut the forces promoting Fee Demo and the
commercialization agenda for recreation on public lands as much of the
past success of the proponents of Fee Demo has been due to the public's
lack of knowledge that the issue even exists. Already as a result of
our ongoing efforts, support for Fee Demo in Congress is waning. If our
event this year is as successful as we hope it will be, we will make the
first major step towards promoting recreational opportunities accessible
to all on lands unadulterated by commercial interests by eliminating Fee
Demo.

If you are interested in organizing or taking part in a rally or protest
in your area, please contact the appropriate organizer listed below and
let him know what you are planning. Additionally, if you are looking to
attend a protest in your area, but not plan one, we can point you in the
right direction. I will be coordinating events in California, Colorado,
and US Territories, so if you want to plan or attend an event in one of
