Ok ok i have TRIED to read ALL there is on billa's how to hydraulic steer tech, but wow thats insane information. I was hoping to see pics or simpler how to's to run FULL hydro steer on front, i dont really wanna mess with crossover steering id rather just weld my ram that i have up on the axle and tie rod and git'er plumbed up..I have the "P'' style pump obviously and i know i still need ot get the orbital valve just like to see some how tos or pics for a clean install, FIRE UP you flamer torches i know, just having trouble "seeing" the finished product, Oh yeah this is gonna be on a 10bolt axle for now, just a lil bit of help for a young newbie thanks.

Yeah, there's lots of homework involved. You should see the 3" binder text book I printed for future reference.

I also choose to not waste my time with crossover. It seemed a wasted step to me. Especially on a 10-bolt.

Here are a few pics of my setup just after completion. I since have added a new "beef'ier" tie-rod.

New TC pump. Only way to go. Don't waste your time on your stocker. Spring for this and you won't regret it.

(back when I had a front clip, hee-hee) A couple of hoses ended up a little long. I may replace them someday - may not. It was tough to get the hose fittings on the steering unit to all fit in the direction they needed to go. It was also difficult finding a location for the reservoir. It must be higher than the pump and the return hose as short as possible.

Someday when I upgrade to a D60, I'll spring for a double-ended ram. The single was an easier install and quite sufficient for the trails a 10b can handle.

Mine is set up pretty much the same way. Differences are my orbital fittings are pointed down instead of up; I'm running a stock PS pump; and I used an implement ram. I put a tranny cooler on the low pressure return line feeding back into the pump to cool off the DEXIII ATF I run. Other than the fact that the pump is a junker off of a '72 Impala, the system works great! I got a new pump, just haven't put it on yet.

I don't reccomend running a single ended ram on full hydro. It doesn't act equally L to R. It would be almost impossible to drive on the road at any speed about 20mph. You need to look into a double ended ram and a self centering orbital at the least (this alone won't make it return to center like mechanical steering). Are you planning on using this on the street much?

True, but hardly noticable

It would be almost impossible to drive on the road at any speed about 20mph.
I would not recommend driving on the road at all.

my single ended ram feels plenty safe and controllable at 70 mph (max speed with 5.86's and no od). its really hard to notice the difference in power and speed between the 2 directions unless u are wedged between a rock.

people that say u "need" double ended and an open center orbital are either trying to sell u something, or are misinformed. yeah, i wish i had double ended, but this works fine for now, and its definitely safer than my stock steering was, cause it actually works. and open center orbitals, over priced and over rated. i actually prefer my closed center, its kinda fun going through turns with your hands off the wheel.

here is my thread about putting full hydro on my 88 chev.

THANKS A LOT, seeing the pics really helped..i was actually looking at my stabilizer shock area (beefing it up of course) as a place to put the ram just didnt think it would fit or be to big or etc..the pics helped out very much THANKS AGAIN, Ive been told that both ways will work but have had the double ended ram screamed in my face time and time is the only way.

The truck did plan on seeing equal street to offroad or even more street till i get the 60 its just a nicer BIGGER truck to drive than my jeep cause it has A/C and in florida or tropical enviroments its a big deal. The pump, orbital valve and reserve and location is all i was trying to picture in my mind. My buddy gave me a 2'' single piston ram and ive seen tabs welded to the chunck or ring gears or now where dougk20 has his. It looks simple and stock.

Now the point of L to R steering. I was told it wont exactly line up the same so would the steering wheel in a sense slowly "LOOK" like its rotating even though the tires are aligned?? Not sure if my question makes sense but thanks again for all the replys and pics/

Everytime I straighten my tires, the steering wheel is in a different spot. Characteristic of the single-ended ram I suppose. You have to not care about that.

My ram barely fits in that location. Gave up trying a couple times before I got it to work.

thats odd,, if the wheel doesnt return to original spot...wouldnt the ram not be in its original spot?? I mean more opened or closed than the original set up?? This burban might see 55mph thats about it, its more for right around town here no need to get a suburbon thats on 42's up onto a freeway even though i know the cars would clear me a path the whole way.. :flipoff2: Well Im understanding a lot, and after i sell a few more parts ill be ordering the orbital valve...where did you get that BADASS lookin pump...did you make that bracket?? Or is tha a kit from somwheres.

Got my stuff from Howe (http://www.howeperformance.com/rockcrawling.html)
What bracket do you mean?
