This is going to be vague because I don't have much info yet. How much is a M-677 worth? Found it in someones yard and I would love to save it. From what I can tell it has not moved for a while but looks complete including the brush guard and military lights. It was US Navy. I have read that only about 600 were ever made so I know it's a good find and the FC's are sweet. You have any numbers on how many are left? Any and all info would be very helpful.

whats the condition?
i pay 2 grand for mine
it's probably worth more, but it's hard to find anyone that would pay more
do they know what it is?
can you send me a pic?
find out if it still has the diesel or not
the diesel makes it more valuable, but it's not that strong of an engine just rare and original
if you want to drive it don't worry about the engine, if you want to restore it then you want the diesel
vague value
no more than $2000 unless you have to have it

just found out today that the guy is out of town for 2-3 weeks! Damn it's going to suck to wait that long. I'll post again when I find out more. Where can you get parts for the diesel?

well that really sucks. I'm sure there is the lack of power from these Diesels but what else goes wrong?

beware of cracked windshields
they are a bugger to find
other than that it's all jeep stuff
the t-90 3 speed is a side shift unit, so that's a little rare, but internally i don't think it's any different
it's weird, these things are rare so lots of folks don't think they should be modified, but in their stock form they are kind of gutless, they could be really cool if they were droppe don a mog frame and running gear with a cummins diesel pushin them around, and hey if you own it, it's yours to do as you please.
keep me posted as I know a lot of the guys that own them
if you wanna email me any more questions my email is

I guess what I ment was that aside from being guttless what goes wrong with the Diesel engine? I know that the rest of the drivetrain is pretty much CJ stuff. However I thought that the tranny was a 4 speed? T98?

Thanks, Phil:usa:

I had a chance to get one of these one ton gems, some 30 years ago and kick myself for not moving on it ever since.
Here's what my book says about them:
"This Willys Model FC 170 4x4 was designated SM677 by the armed forces, and was procured under a 1962 contract. Fitted with a six-passenger crew cab, it did not have the nose-heavy appearance of the pickup. A light brushguard, blackout driving lamp in the center of the grille, blackout marker lamps all around, bumpetrettes, a towing pintle, and lifting eyes at the ends of the bumpers completed the militarization. This particular vehicle was fitted with a Cerlist diesel engine, three-speed transmission and a three speed transfer case(!), and had a GVW of 7000 lbs. The overall concept is very similar to Volkswagen's "double cab pickup" of the same era. Is lenght was 15', 4", its width was 6', 8", and it was 7', 3" high."(AMC)

jefe here again. It says '6 passenger, but the engine is under the middle seat in front, so maybe 5. The one I saw, woulda', coulda' shoulda', (a '64 USMC colors, only 43 dilivered to the Corps, I think this one came from Camp Pendelton) had the Cerlist 3 cyl. diesel ( noisey, rough, with 3 big holes) and a T98, with D44 front and D60 rr axle. 7.50/16 tires/wheels with an aluminum "Quanset Hut" looking cover for the back. The suspension and drive train looked very sturdy. It had just over 4000 miles on the odo. It was pristine. It was 24 volt and I could not get it started with 2 dead batteries. The woman who was selling it (for $650) said it was her dead husband's (who died in a diving accident). By the time I got back with cash someone had already bought it. I ALWAYS kick myself for letting this one get away. I still have the hots for one. I wanted to dump the diesel and put in a V8. I had young kids at the time and needed space for family off-roading. I wound up selling my FJ40 and getting an FJ55, which we eventually drove 160,000 miles over 14 years.
regards, as always, jefe

i have never seen or heard of the t-98 behind the cerlist
though I wish it had it, and I believe the 3 speed t-case is also a dream, though you never know what ever could have come in a short run military rig, the 60 is also unheard of as the one ton fc's had I believe a dana 70 rear

Fred,
You're the man on these machines. It's just what i remember from long ago. The pic you posted has no D70 on the rear. It looks a lot lighter than that. How does the 3 cyl Cerlist run? I've just gotten info on the running character 2nd hand. I've had 6 diesel power machines in my time and can't imagine how a 3 cylinder engine would run. Like a John Deere? Kee-Pop-Kee-Pop-Keep-Pop.
The crew cab body/chassis design was way ahead of it's time.

yeah mine is a dana 53, the dually fc's had 70 rears I believe.
the cerlist is pretty cool being 2 stroke and all, but it is hella loud without the doghouse on

Fred, that is your 677 in Classic 4x4 Buyers guide book, isn't it? I just put 2 and 2 together. Your famous! Also, that is where it said that the military FC's had a 4 speed.
