Don't I see you running around Placerville?

Nope, I'm in the SF Bay area. Only get around Placerville between April and November. :smokin:

You probably see the ZJ that was built by Flex 4WD, but it's on leaf suspension and 44s front and rear. And alot pertier than my ZJ.

I've never seen it wheel... only saw it sitting in the granite bowl one year, apparently with a fragged tcase. Looked like a solid rig to me though, maybe a little too tall. Or do you mean mine?:flipoff2:

Thanks Bert.

It's out of a 70something ford Fsomething.:emb: I bought the housing already narrowed. Didn't learn until fabbing up the xmember that the narrowing job left one side caster 2* less than the other side. Bummer part of than is that this housing is from one of the years where the c-bushing mounts were cast in with the knuckles (that should be a tip as to which model/year it came from, for the Ford gurus.)

The BBQburban was from Saturday at Hollister Hills ORV park. My buddy james had just rolled, and it was the end of the day anyway so we were on our way out of the park, when we saw a HUGE black clowd of smoke coming from mid park. We blasted over there to see four young folk come running down the hill, empty extinguishers in hand, yelling that they thought the tank (with 35 gallons still in it) was sure to blow any minute. We parked and ran up to just the crest of the hill where we could see the burban (where those pics are taken from), and kept our entinguishers ready for the trees if the fire spread. The burban was full engulfed at this time, and our extinguishers would've done nothing for putting out the fire. By the time the ranger and the fire dept arrived, the fire had started to chill out, and the tank hadn't erupted, so we left.
Apparently, there was an oil leak or something. The kids were going up the hill when flames suddenly started coming out from under the hood.

I just put a 9 in my XJ and it is 5 on 5.5 now but I am most likely going to just use chev outers for the front so I was wondering how you switched the rear bolt pattern? And what brakes are you using back there, disc or drum and from what, thanks for the info

Sent the shafts & rotors to Dutchman to be replugged.
Shafts are $85/pair, rotors are $35/pair.
They did a pro job on the shafts, can't hardly see the old lug holes. The rotors you could do yourself really, but going from 5x4.5 to 6x5.5, I was going to have some holes that overlapped a bit so I farmed it out for inexpensive piece of mind.

I am guessing that they would do the same with drums as with rotors - I wonder if it is worth having the stock shafts relugged or just go to some alloys at the same time... Maybe I will just wait until I break something/want to go to discs/ or get tired of two bolt patterns - I had my driver side shaft shortened by dutchman when I chopped my 9 down so I know they do good work... Thanks again

I'd relug the stockers, and get some alloys too; run the alloys as your shafts, carry the stockers as spares. I got a set of spare shafts from a friend, so I had those relugged so I could carry them for spares.

cbasset,
Next question, Axles are what part Number and brand?

Here is why I ask. I have a RR 44 and was thinking I could do something similar to yours using old TERAFLEX short arms for the flex part. We could weld them to the lower (long arms) like you did. That way I could still have a long arm Flex and it would mount to my TERAFLEX long arm kit frame mounts. I could have upper mounts the same as a stock TJ is with my upper flex arms.

The tough part is finding the correct WMS so we can have axles that are not special order. I want to use avail axles.

Thanks for whatever you know. I realize you bought this already cut down... I was hoping you found one that was the right width. But oh well... :)

EDIT:: Nevermind i just saw the http://www.dutchmanaxles.com/ on the other post. thanks...

Hey Bert,

I did buy my RC44 housing already narrowed. The 9" I bought from Currie, spec'd to OE width of my ZJ.

Whomever narrowed the RC44 housing, actually did it with OE shafts in mind. I don't have my notes with me at work, but they narrowed it such that I can use shafts from certain years of Broncos; my inner shaft requirements are within hundredths of an inch of the Broncos stock length.
Wanting to eventually get some CTMs, I ordered Dutchman inners this time around (yeah a departure from the Warn crowd, we'll see how it goes...). Plus there were none of the target year donor rigs in my local PNPs to get inner shafts from.
Then, as you read in the other thread, I sent my rear shafts to Dutchman to be relugged from 5x4.5 to 6x5.5 (7/16"). I'm using Waggy outers (which are already 6x5.5) and brake brackets, and Chevy 3/4 ton calipers. If you go Waggy, buy Chevy brakes. They're basically the same and the Chevys are WAY less money.
