Hey Jeff, I'm sure I'm not the only one interested to khow what blew up and why you think it did. I heard that it was 2 front hubs and a driveline u joint, but don;t know if that is true or not. Did the CTMs make it?

well that should still be a good story - how do you break a 435 housing? Isn't that the second one he's broken?

1st let me say, that Camo has been listening to 4 cylinder Toyota mills (which I actually respect as a good off road engine), break bierfields for so long, that if someone overtightens the rubber band on model airplane, he cringes.
My high rev indicator only showed a high rev this weekend of about 4800 rpms, and my 5.0 HO is designed for 6k all day long.
But 300 hp, is kinda loud, and may have startled some of the observers, (I appologize if I scared any of you,..."Camo"). When you bring your rig out to run with the pro mods, you have to push the limits of some of the equiptment. But You absolutely have to use the the stronger assets of the rig. So after I cleared the gates at the 1st rock obstacle, and lined up, on the loose rock climb in front of me, I pointed up hill and lit the fuse. What I didnt know was that the Warn hub on the right side, had let go, right at the launch. Surprised that I was denied, I asked the 5.0 for more help, and my mongrel built rear drive shaft let go in a very bad way. It was twisted at the splines about 90 degrees, and busetd at both end yokes, the yokes at the T case output, and pinion shaft were also destroyed. We welded up, a complete new shaft, and scrounged another 32 spline output yoke for the Atlass, and put a drive slug, in the front axle. but we went over our 45 minute repair time and was DQ'd. I made a few key errors, one I should have been running the slugs instead of the Warn locking hubs. I shouldnt have signed my repair time start untill the last second at the next gate(I signed as I exited the course I broke on), (but these kinds of hard learned lessons tend to sink in very well).. I need stronger drive lines, so Ill look to Jesse for more reliable assemblies. The parts that broke were obviousely worthless and weak, and have been or will be eliminated. But i wouldnt look for any change in strategy for climbing that type of hill,..that was an easy HP obstacle for my set up,.. but I busted.

As for the tranny, "What the fawk???" with my rig repaired, and nothing to do but watch, I was more than willing to help haul Capn America out of a tough situation(in front of a crowd). We hooked the strap but I couldnt hold on the sand hill, so I put it in reverse and let it idle, while I reeled in the line, the strain was building to the point that I was feeling uncomfortable in the seat. I was about to release some line tension, when the tranny popped like, if, it came out of gear, under load, and all of the fresh clean gear oil, that I installed 2 days earlier, puked out. It still works, but makes a nasty racket in reverse. And since it wont hold fluid, it has been running dry for the last couple days. I have a replacement case, to pick up tomorrow, and the rebuilds only take a few hours.
After talking it over with some of the fabrication gurus, at the event, I am going to redesign the mounting set up.

I still had a great time, but was disapointed with some of my fabrication, and parts selections. We will be stronger in time for the Reno event. Just look for my black and white YJ,..... no dont do that, theres been a color change. Just look for Camo backing away in fear, and look towards the sound of the V8,(Camo we really need to get that NOS hooked up, on your rig, so you can begin your throttlephobia therapy). :flipoff2: Im sure youll see things differently from the top of the Hammer sand dunes,(sorry Bendah Bruthah)

ok fawker i am gonna spot for you next time. oh and by the way i am building a coil that will put 50k volts into your ass every time your tach hits 4ooo rpm. :flipoff2: really though i did not see any reason you needed more than 6 hp to try and climb that part you were using 300hp. don't sweat it buddy we will get some trainquilizers for reno and you will do fine. :D
