welp, i checked word search, as all good POR'ers should do, and all i got was a thread that asked the same thing i did, and everyone said the guy shoul;d use fine thread.....whatever....missed the point I guess...

ANYWAY, I am going to build a 3-link, and for the upper "U" I want to use 1, 1 1/8, or 1 1/4" ACME thread MALE stud, and build the tube with an acme female "sleeve" or some kinf of weld stud, basically, the same sorta' set-up you see on a lot of the RE or Terraflex cotrol arms....i wanna 'DIY' but can't find out where to go.

mcMaster and MSC has the threaded rods and bars, but no nut inserts or any of that. The ones i have found are for the linear motion application, and are usually oil-lite, brass or bronze, so no good.

I can't be the only one that has attempted to use acme for this sort of thing (RE does it all day long) so i am wondering where to go for these parts/supplies.....

any leads?

thanks.

Ask a local machine shop if they can make you an insert. They usually have a network of other shops that share uncommon taps like the Acme. Make them give you a price up front, anything over $30 is too much. Or if you would like to send me the specs I could see what I could come up with.

... just looked at Fastenal as well, but didn't see anything useful in there.

FYI; I don't believe RE uses ACME threads of any sort. If you're looking at their standard control arms (even on the long arm kit), that stuff is all either UNF or UNC, not ACME.

Tera is the only one I was aware of that used an ACME thread.

And just why isn't your family's shop capable of cutting internal ACME threads?! :D

cause, we're the fabricatin' variety of metal bitches. we don't machine, just bend, punch weld and drill......

machining/lathing is for fairy metal bitches like the easy-xj kind.....that's why I thought he could help, but to date, he's been abso-fawkin-lutely worthless.......

it the only strategy he's got from keepin me from buildin a 3-link that will spank his :rainbow: ass

If you pick up the proper tap, I've got access to a South Bend big enough to give a slug a "whirl."

Actually, I've got access to two now, one in IL and one in Milwaukee.

Unless you plan on using the ACME's course thread to your benefit though, I don't think it's really necessary. I was perusin' Avalanche's site and all they seem to use for their link setups is 3/4 and 1" UNC stuff. AFAIC, if it's good enough for Avalanche, it's good enough for my "poseur" rig.
