View Full Version : 1997 Dodge Diesel brakes
How difficult is it to remove the rotors? My right ride front is metal to metal

Haven't done mine yet. Let me know how it goes. I hear Geno's has some of the better brake pads if you are looking. Only problem is he's a couple of days to get to your door.

Vova - It's fawken simple, trust me. Search on dieseltruckresource.com for remove rotors, but the basic run down is that you jack the frontend up, pull the tires off, pull off the dually spacers, loosen the 4 bolts on the inside of the knuckle that hold the unit bearing about halfway. Then take a long socket and stick it between the yoke of the outer stub shaft and the inner 'C' knuckle. Then start the truck up and use the powersteering to turn against the socket, it will pop the hub and rotor right out, then you can beat the studs out. Makes it way too easy.
Good luck,
Sean

Damn... they've sure simplified that setup since '97. On my '01 (it is a 2500 though), you just have to unscrew the two caliper pins, remove the two mounting bolts for the caliper adapter, remove the little push nut thingys on the studs and slide the rotor off. They're "hat" style on mine. I literally had one rotor off in under 10 minutes including jacking the truck up.

Gonna try it this weekend. Sounds easy enough :)
Thanks

Don't forget the 1-11/16 socket and the impact gun you'll need to remove the spindle nut (assuming it's the same as a 2500).

anyone going to notice he didn't say if it was 4x2 or 4x4?
4x2 it pulls the outer bearing and the inner race. Your new rotor will have the new inner race. Just put it back together and set the preload... no biggie.
