i have a 89 241 with a mech speedo, can i swap the tail housning of a VSS 241 with mine? are they interchangable?

Wow, usually guys are looking for the mech output pieces and parts, I bet you will find someone willing to trade ya the parts!

My truck has the mech stuff, the t-case i am looking at has VSS
so i was wondering if i can swap My mech. stuff to the vss case

they are interchangeable... BUT as far as I know, all the mech speedo versions are passenger side drop, and all the VSS versions are driver side drop.

No there is a passenger drop 241 in the VSS and mechanical. The mechanical was only offered in 89' and after 89' till 91' they used the VSS passenger drop 241.

So you swapping a Mech Speedo onto a VSS t-case ... It's an easy swap to do :smokin:

This is how easy it is to remove the vss ... 4 bolts on the tail shaft housing, a snap ring, 4 bolts on the bearing retainer housing, and another snap ring. Then slide the drive gear off. Preform the same steps on the mech speedo and then the reverse to install it on the former vss t-case. Sealing is accomplished by means of your favorite silicone.
