: Yota-San: Tires
Thanks BTW...;)
Need your opinion on MTR's I would like to go with a 37" tall tire but the selection of good offroad and streetable tire's in that diameter is pretty limited. I'm wondering if you'd still sport MTR's if they came in the size you want. I could run 35's but I don't think they are going to be big enough. Just a q for ya! My other alternatives are SSR's or the new (soon to be released) Procomp Xterrain 37X13.50 R16.
thanks

Well, for those of you that haven't heard yet, the MTR's are coming down in price becuase they are making them available to the public just like the 35" becuase they finally realized we all want them. Dave, in all honesty, go with the 37" bogger. That's what I got and for the terrain we have around here, it's definately the tire of choice. But it does sound like you plan on daily driving your rig (is this true?)... if that is true, just get the 37" bogger and some other tires to daily drive, and then get something else to daily drive (cheap used tires). The reason I say this is because the majority of trails around here always have mud somewhere and the boggers will really come in handy! But I think you can't go wrong with the MTR's. As for the SSR's, well, I've heard nothing but bad about them and they have weak sidewalls, which for me was reason enough not to get them. Anyways, I'll be giving you a call here tonight probably to talk to you about my bros truck.... Peace!
T1H5_TA3 03-11-2002, 06:19 PM anoter choice is buckshot's.. the r98-16 is 37" x 11".. but the tread is almost a full inch deap in the center, and like 1.75 on the edges.. i havent priced them yet but national has that size still listed on the specs page..
TNToy 03-11-2002, 09:07 PM I wanted to go to 35" MT/Rs. I really did. As far as a primarily of-road rig, I was happy. Until recently, I'd been able to keep up with the rest of our group just fine. But lately there have been quite a few holes I stuck in that I really shouldn't have.
I let a buddy borrow my 33" MT/Rs ad we went playing a while back. With two lockers he stuck in a hole I had to strap him out of. I then proceeded to back through his ruts with just a little tire spin. I love swampers.
You're in canada. Get swampers. You won't regret it. I just need to track down a set of 35" mts or ats that won't die on the highway for road trips.
TNToy 03-11-2002, 09:12 PM I guess what I should have said, was simply "You'll love the MT/Rs everywhere but in mud".
They're ahead of any other radial mudder in mud: which is to say, light-years behind a swamper or bogger.
zukiman 03-11-2002, 11:40 PM There is nothing weak about the SSRs sidewalls. They're so darn thick you'd think they're bias ply if you didn't know otherwise. They're much heavier duty than other radials like the BFG's or the MT/R's, yet they still flex great when aired down. I couldn't be happier with any other tire. I have the 33x14.50 SSRs which are about as tall as a normal 35 but much wider. The rubber is soft so it sticks like glue. It won't be as good as a Bogger in gumbo mud, but no other tire is either.

I think some of you need to learn how to read... but that is another matter.
So of the people who responded who actually runs their truck 75 Mi a day 5 days a week on the road? Let me clairify that even more on an asphalt (sp) freeway at 70mph.
To answer your question Kev, yes I do have the TJ to drive most days but one vehicle between me and the little lady it gets a little strained (the bus ain't exactly perfect transportation). I would like to be able to let her drive without worrying about bias ply's and the multiple pavement ruts she will face everyday. So there are other concerns other than curbs on your driveway that you need your 40" boggers for... Wait a minute, I do believe your daily driver has alterain radials on it...
Thanks for your input...
KEVZUKI 03-12-2002, 04:47 PM Ya , I guess if you put it that way , boggers would not be the best choice , 37" SSR's would be my next choice.
I sure am Glad my broad has 2 of her own vehicles , heh:flipoff2:
