OK, hopefully this isn't too stupid of a question. I'm looking for a cheap way to get a 60 in the rear of my Jeep. Mu buddy has an 8 lug semi floating 60 in his shop he'd give me for cheap. I'm not sure what the gears are yet, but I'm guessing probably 4.10s. I'm assuming it came from a f250, since that's the only thing I know that had a semi floating 35 spline dana 60 c-clip.

Is there a chance this might be 4.56s? I.E. what ratios did these rears come with stock?

It looked like about 65" WMS to WMS, does that sound right? It was partially appart, so it was kind of hard to tell.

I was it had the large center on the axle flange, is it possible to turn it down to redrill and make a 5 on 5.5 out of it, or am I going to have to just get new shafts custom?

I wanted to cut it down to match a waggy front dana 44. if I cut it down and use the 9 inch style housing ends, can I use regular ford 5 on 5.5 drum brakes from a bronco or f150, or am I looking at a custom disk setup?

Basically, if all I'm going to get out of it is the housing to cut down, is it worth it, or do they have thin tubes or something?

Sorry for the long post and all the questions, just trying to not do something costly. I don't have much money to spend, but would love to have a 35 spline 60.

if you want 5 on 5.5...look for late 60s early-mid 70s F100's...alot of them had Dana60's SF with 5 on 5.5 pattern. and depending what year that F250 is. its either 3.55 or 4.10 (id imagine) maybe 3.73 but i havent seen alot of those.

Aren't those 30 or 31 spline units though? At that rate I might as well build a dana 44 and save myself some money and ground clearance. I've been snapping warn full floating axle shafts in my model 20 too frequently, and somehow a semi floating 30 spline axle doesn't seem like an upgrade to me.
