I just picked up a ZF tranny case for a small block, and I already had a ZF for a 7.3.....

Obviously, I am going to TRY and swap the diesel guts into the small block case and run it behind my 5.0.....if I can.....

But my question is about the input shafts. Are the "gas" ones the same as the "diesel" ones (in terms of spline, and sizes)?? If not, can I run a diesel clutch behind the 5.0? And if not to that question, will a gas input mesh with the diesel guts? :confused:

If this isn't a possible swap.....

Anyone got some gas ZF guts? or another gas ZF tranny that tyhey wanna swap for a 7.3 one?

hey im in the process of doing this for someone right now and here is what i can tell you because i have a complete 7.3 trans and completer small block trans. the input shafts are different 7.3 is shorter by a couple inches and thicker also. the diesel trans doesnt have the low first gear either. so if you dont care about the low first gear than just get a small block input shaft. i have the trannys at work not in front of me or i would see if there is anyting else plus give measurements.
