: Triangulate Rear? Yes or No

Want your opinion if YOU would triangulate. I have a 5.5 RE Long Arm TJ kit now with the track bar in the back. It seems to work fine. I am already putting coilovers in the front.

I am getting a new axle and it would be easy to modify the back axle to be triangulated. The work would be in changing the belly pan mounts and most likely lengthening the rear upper arms. What would you do?

mmm, yeah, I'm thinking I'd do it...

After seeing how well mine turned out, Kodak decided to do the same on his TJ. He built front longarms (ala RE), and triangulated upper rears, with lower 'J' arms (ala Currie).

You'll definitely have to lengthen your upper arms. My lowers are 36", uppers are 40".

Sorry bro', but triangulation alone does not get rid of the condition known as rear steer.

For the answer(s), look to Milliken's book, "Race Car Vehicle Dynamics." In there, they will tell you how to design a suspension to eliminate rear steer.

If you are redoing everything else it wouldn't be a big deal to do it, but i don't think youll gain anything by doing so.

LMAO!! Looks similar to what we did to Kodak's TJ to get him off the Rubicon last year! Used a mix of come-along, chain, and duct tape to keep his rear axle centered.

brahhh! The shot I thought was my heep! That is too funny. I had safty chain/comealong and duct tape holding the upper ctrl arm/trackbar on to the axle. whata cluster fuck.

I say go for the triangle!
If you have RE longarm installed. the brackets for the upper frame mount will need to be changed to get the angle aligned with the axle mounts.

just say no to track.....

Yeah, that happened on the second to last obsticle on 21 road here in Colorado. I ended up going out the top, but it sure felt bad off camber. That ratchet strap did most of the work holding it together, and now I carry a couple extras just in case. I am in the middle of triangluating my rear on a new axle though. Hope it works better!

You can just see the tail pipe in this shot.

I say go for it!

How about a triangulated 4 link setup for the front end? Any downfalls to that? If it can hold a monster trucks front end in place when they corner or roll, why wouldn't it work for us? Only thing I can see is clearance issues.

What page? :flipoff2:
Yea I am lazy whut of it???
Good book but my brain gets runny if I read it more than 256^1024 concepts at one time.

kodak; do you have any more pics of you setup? What did you do with the lower arms. Did you leave the Curries the length they sent them as or did you change them?

Thanks, Phil:usa:

TJpwr,
The lowers are home brewed. They are 33 inches long. That is as far as I could make them without getting to the driver side of the bellypan.
