I just bought a CJ7 pretty much just for the frame. At the time of purchase I was unable to get under it to check for any extensive damage, but I felt around the holes and didn't feel anything too bad. Now that I have the body off the rust looks bad. It actually looks worse in person compared to the picture. Is it too far gone? Or can I just cut it out and weld in new steel. Being that the frame is probably hardened steel would it be okay to do that? Thanks everyone.

No doubt about that! This sucks...well at least I got some good front end parts that will probably cover my cost. Anyone need fenders, hood and a grille? :D

I dont know what your end plans are but when my CJ frame took a dump I replaced it with a YJ frame and have not looked back.

I'm still pretty "jeep" illiterate. I thought about looking for a YJ frame hearing that they were a bit more beefy. Why do you suggest a YJ frame?

As far as plans, I'm building frame up and going with 60s front and rear, with a Dodge 360 I'm rebuilding right now. NP435 with a Dana300. This is my first jeep so It's not going to be anything crazy, but it needs to be road worthy and have the ability to hit the trails and mud on the weekends.

I went with a YJ frame for a few reasons: 1. Stronger; 2.5"X4" Sq. Tube (not two C-channels welded or a boxed). 2. Wider; only minor adjustments to go full width. 3. Eaiser to stretch; Go pick up a 20' stick of 2.5X4 and go to town. 4. Minor body mount changes, better yet get the YJ frame and tub combo and you are good to go.

Not to mention the YJ frame is fully boxed and won't rust as bad as a CJ frame.
