I have a 77f1504x4 with a 460, 37boggers and every couple of months I destroy a frt axleshaft. I know I'm pushin' the limit on the stock d44 axle. I'm not prepared right now to upgrade to a RRD60, so is anyone runnin' WARN'S high strength 4340 frt axleshafts. How are they holding up under some abuse, and are they worth the price? I have already tried some of the best u-joints you can put in still breaking... Have a detroit up frt also. Am I destined to go bigger or can I get by a little longer with WARN'S axles And the best u-joints

if you were going to stay 35 or smaller tire then maybe
other then that it is money better spent on finding a d60

I was faced with a similar problem, 79 Bronco w/460. From what I've read and done you're in a bit of a bind. The bottom line is this, the 37's alone are not the problem, it's the combination of "big block"+"locker"+"37's"+"the most aggressive tire there is".

I put in Yukon shafts, Jantz joints, and 37" Creepy's but left the axle open. The creepy's run a bit small, making them closer to 36's than anything else. There are two situations where I try to avoid big throttle usage: towing/uphill in reverse, and with the steering wheel cranked.

Pretty much everyone onthis board says go D60, but I scored my Yukon axles for $318 from completeoffroad.com. For that much I was willing to give it a shot before dropping $2500 (no, I don't have a mountain of spare junk lying around) to go D60.

If I crunch parts before christmas, I guess I fawked up.

Your money is better spent on a 60 or a lot of spares.

I ran 38swamper on welded d44 with chromoly 4340 shafts inner and outer with ctm joints i didnt have a problem. You just have to be a little easy on the throttle. Remember full throttle is not the answer. I use mine in all terrains and drive on the road

yea, but who wants to pussyfoot their trail rig?? :flipoff2: Save the money for the 60. Take an extra job , whatever it takes, but go 60. I have broken a whole forest of 44 shafts including the moser's and seen a few of the hoopty doo Warns break. If you have detroit up front sale it before the shockload of an axle snap takes it out. This was all with 38 SX's... Untill then lighten up on the gas and take the kiddy trails.
