ok, so it is common concensus that the outters are the weak link in the D60.
im gonna replace them with the 35 spline outters and hubs, but i am wondering who will have the strongest ones. warn? yukon? superiors?
also, what will be my chances of blowing my necked down inners?
just a little idea, this is going into a 79 F150, 460 that will be mild to stock for now, but would love to push the 500-600 or more horse one day. it will have 44" boggers and be a mud machine. gonna get a zuki for the trails.
also, what should i do for a carrier? detroit? go limited slip? what other options do i have?

From what I've heard, the 30 spline outers are only slightly weaker (if at all) than the necked down inners. They have about the same min. diameter. If I were you, I'd order a new set of new non-neckdown Spicer shafts and a set of 35 spline D70 Spicer outers to go with 'em. Then you'd have tough axles that are pretty evenly matched all around. You'll have to decide if you really need alloys, but running 35 spline alloy outers on necked down inners is kind of like using twine to splice two 50,000 pound snatch straps together. It don' may' no sense.
As for a front diff, an ARB is always nice if you can afford it, but if this is going in a mud truck that pretty much just churns in a straight line, my vote would go to the Detroit. SIMPLE BEEF. Especially if you want to run 44s. Just don't drive it in the snow. Just my opinion, but with tires that big, I doubt you'd even know it if you put a limited slip in there. Just my $.02

mine too...and go with the yukons on the ford axle because they are made to work with it...the spicer ones you have to do a little modding

I used Dutchman 4340 axles 35 spl inner/outer with Warn premium hubs. looked way beefy and strong. people have said that Dutchman axles are really Yukons but whatever. They were a lot less than Superiors and I am sure would have worked fine for me before I got rockwells.
called Dutchman directly and got the hubs from Ebay. Axles were about 400 and the hubs were about 150

bang for the buck is yukon axles.
I have 35 spline outters and lame neck down inners and have not broke them yet, I had 44's for a few trips too.
If Mark hasnt totally destroyed his yet, they should last me awhile :)
You can read alot about the 4340 Yukon shafts, were quite a few discussions on em.

What do you mean by this???
Oh yeah what U-joints are you guys running in the Yukons? From where?
Yeah, the outers break, but this was because of other parts failure. Damn shorted electric line locks.

Tobias, I am running 806x Spicer Snap-tites on mine, couldnt afford the CTM/Superjoint route so going to give it a shot.
In regards to his comment about Yukon/Ford etc, I think pbmang was talking about talking a chev 35 spline outer, cutting 0.600" off and re-cutting in a grove for the snap-ring. As far as I know that is no longer needed as company's have started making the correct length outers for the Ford. Just a guess.
For what its worth, my 35 spline Warn hub box says "Custom Stubs ONLY" on the side of it. Must of been from before producers started making Ford length 35 spl outers.
