I am running humvee beadlocks(16.5) on my toy and i am upgrading from 36's MT's(which meas. about 33 when aired down) to a 38. I have heard that the 38x12.5x15 tsl measures about 36 but the same tire in a 16.5 is a true 38 with bigger lugs??? Anyone seen this in person or have any measurements to comfirm or disprove??

Thanks

The 16.5" version has identical lugs, but does measure larger. 36.5-36.75" vs. 36.0" for the 15" version. If you want a true 38" height with larger lugs, you need to move up to the 38.5X16 rather than the 38X12.50.

Ok, thanks. I was hoping to stay away from that wide of a tire but it looks like im kinda stuck. I would also like to run a bogger but the 37 is just not tall enough either. Hard to find the tall ones in a skinny version, and i dont like the 38x11 bogger.

There's two versions of the 38x12.50x16.5, the 6 ply version (sam-93) is the same height as the 38.5, the 10 ply version (sam-98) is shorter. I have the 6 ply version and it measures 38.5".

Your sig says "SX". Is that what's on your rig? 'Cause I was talking about the standard TSL. For the record, I have NEVER seen a 38X12.50 TSL for any rim size that even approached 38" - and I used to measure each & every one of them at the local mud races.

Oh, and a bit of trivia about the 38X12.50, up until about 20 years ago, this tire was stamped "37X13". The 36X12.50 came out before the 38.5X16, so at the time the 36 was introduced, the stamp on the 37 was changed.

THanks for the heads up again tex, i guess you were the guy at the gate that made sure people would spec out for the 36" and under class huh?
I think the 6 ply sx might be the ticket then. I was hoping the cheap price on the tsl might be cool but the sx isnt to much more. Probably go that way.

Hey tex,

one more interco trivia ? Why is the 38x15 Bogger cheaper than the 37x13 bogger?? Both are LT rated. I have wondered this for a while.

Yep, sorry I thought he was talking about the SX.

Yup, that's me.

No idea. The 37's are way short (and shallow tread depth) & the 38.5X15's are about average size for a 38.5 (about like a 38.5X11, but shorter than a 38.5X16 TSL). FWIW, the 38.5X15 Bogger doesn't appear to be a ridiculously wide tire, 'course the only set I've seen were on 8" rims.

No problem. Good to know the SX's are so much bigger :)

Hey Tex, what does the 38x16 tsl measure out to??? And also what does the 38x11 bogger measure? Thanks for the info but i dont have any data to base off of.

The 38.5X16 comes in right around 38" on a 10" rim. We used to have a 38.0" class & as I recall those were snug in the caliper (39.5's wouldn't go at all BTW). I had a pair on 15X15 rims & mine measured 37.0" exactly. Did that to get into a 37" class with another organization

Not positive on the 38.5X11 Boggers as I know they're way too big for the 36" caliper, but not even close to the 39.0" caliper (class sizes changed before those came out). I seem to recall a guy being allowed to run them in a 37" class once though. So, since they're way too big for the 36" class, but go in the 37" class, I'd have go *guess* somewhere right around 37" on a 7-8" rim.

Sorry I can't be more specific on that one.

Can't find it. If I remember correctly, the 35X16 is 90lbs & the 39.5X18 is 110. So, probably somewhere in between.

Thanks again tex, it would be nice if someone would build an interco FAQ. Probably get alot of use.
