: Looking to buy vehicle, Need advice.
YamahaAlex37 09-06-2005, 05:46 PM I'm going to be buying my first car pretty soon, and I need advice on what to get. I'm deffinently going to be going off-roading and I live in Florida, so the terrain is mostly sand and mud. I want to spend around 4000-5000 dollars and get a stock good condition truck/suv and I'll buy a lift kit and maybe some other stuff for it after I get it. It probably needs to be somewhere between late eighties / early nineties for the price range I'm looking for. What are some good quality durable trucks or suvs that would fit my needs? So far I'm looking at Wranglers, Cherokees, and Broncos.

Are you lost ? This is not a car forum..

You mention that you want good quality then say those 3 names
Seriously for what your looking for you should get a Chevy pickup or a Blazer with a solid front axle.. You can find a 88-91 Blazer that has a 350 with fuel injection for around that price.. The parts are easy to come by and you can modify it to suit your needs..
bob large 09-06-2005, 11:30 PM This is the newbie forum. So give the kid some slack. :shaking:
First things first. Do you really need a 4x4/truck/suv?
This might seam like an easy question, but my first 4x4 buy in hind sight was a major mistake. 20 k and 6 years later and I’m still paying on it and having to think about an engine swap and drive train replacement. And the dam thing is a 2000…
Pick up a good "car" then after it’s paid off get a good peace of junk 4x4 to play with. Then if you break it (which you will) it’s not a big issue. Wheeling your daily driver can be fun, but if you don't know how to work on it, it can be a nightmare.
Other issues to think about;
Do you have the ability to work on your junk?
Do you have all the necessary tools?
Do you have a place to work on it?
Do you have the funds to work on it?
Do you have the time to work on it?
Will you in the future have to transport your junk across country (i.e. move)?
These all seam like odd things to be asking, but in ten years they will all become very obvious thing to consider.
And remember; saving a small amount of money now can (through the magic of compound interest) be a small fortune later. So save your money. :p

But we all know that the only thing on a Jeep that is original and NOT from a Chevy is the emblem :flipoff2:

The only bronco's that were solid axle are the early bronco's. All of them were that TTB front end, both full size and bronco II's.
YamahaAlex37 09-07-2005, 01:21 PM mudslinger you are a retard i think it was obvious you knew what i was asking so why would you even bother to write stupid shit... car in the dictionary says an automobile... and i said truck/suv too. and i dont have to worry about spending 20000 and making car payments for 6 years because im going to buy it for 4000-5000 dollars. and i wont tear it to shit just some offroading.

YamahaAlex37 09-08-2005, 05:53 PM lol ur a dumbass i wasnt crying i was telling you how stupid you are
Pietro 09-08-2005, 06:22 PM if you aren't going to be any rocks, i would go with an ifs yota pickup, throw a locker in the rear and some nice tires on it and be done. you could go with an tj wrangler but you wont get one cheap with a 6 cylinder and the wheelbase sucks for highspeed stuff. The xj can be had cheap, but get one with a chrysler 8.25" rearend. Just expect to spend some coin lifting the suspension to clear larger tires. A midly lifted xj has the same ground clearance as a stock yota pickup.
YamahaAlex37 09-08-2005, 08:08 PM thanks alot for the advice and sorry if this is stupid but whats ifs?

Independent Front Suspension :D
none1 09-09-2005, 06:51 AM Wranglers are great out of the box. If you can find a SIX cylinder TJ (TJ = round headlights, 1997 or higher) in your price range grab it, other wise, a YJ would work too, hit JU (jeeps unlimited) for what years to look for. One with a D44 rear end is a great idea, the D35 is poor.
Couple inches lift, aim for 31 tires so you don't need a SYE or new control arms, selectable locker in your D44, and you're set.
Big broncos with TTB (ford IFS) are also a cheap buy, and cheap to lift and throw big tiers on. The stock ford TTB front axle can hold 33's easy, 35's should be OK too.
If you are looking to go crazy high, over 35" tires and swaping in axles, well then anything will work, but it'll be expensive to get it there. :-)
Best CHEAP 4x4's for offroading right now IMHO are the YJs and broncos. If you're more into DD and light off roading, I give the XJ (cherokee) the nod.
GOOD LUCK!
