Thanks for reading.....

I'm ready to throw a lift kit under my 40, and I have been told that the Smoky Mountain Kit is the thing to have (dont have the budget for the OME).

Can anyone share thoughts on this kit?

Thanks in advance.

I just put on the 4" TPI on my 77 and love it. It is a little stiff, however it will break in. I found out when I took my old suspension off, that the PO had add a leafs on it. Talk about a harsh ride! I am overall pleased with the Smokey Mountain Lift. I still need to buy my new rims and 33" tires. I am running 31's for the time being. 33's should be perfect. Not sure about 35's without any cutting of the flares. The anti inversion shackles that come with it are VERY BEEFY and are of great quality. Overall, no complaints with the system, by brother has a OME on his cruiser and I really can't tell a big difference in the ride quality. I was able to score my lift with shocks for $683 when TPI had there sale in December!

Hope this helps....Ron :smokin:

It is a very high quality kit, however i don't think it is $400 better than a Skyjacker FJ-40 kit. Like Tahoe said, by buddy has one and we filled his Cruiser with Quick Crete bags to get enough weight inthere to soften them up.

VERY stiff at first.

He seems to like it now, but I would think about the Skyjacker setup.

The story I have heard on these kits are that they are made by McCoy Bros in Alberta, Canada. The 2.5 inch kit is a knock off of the OME design, while the 4 inch kit closely resembles the Skyjacker 4 inch set. MAF and JTO are rumored to sellt he same spring. I have only seen the MAF versions in person, so I can confirm this for the MAF springs; otherwise this is only rumor.

I ran Skyjackers for a couple years before I went SOA. Once I broke them in, they worked just fine. Breakin is easy....just spend a day in your favorite ravine crossing them up over and over and over and over and over....

Also, consider relocating your shackles for a better angle on them and running longer shackles as well. I could compress my rear 4" Skyjackers so much with the stock shackles and the stock mounts that the shackle would end up parallel with the frame and the spring eye would hit!

I dunno if its of interest but... IIRC check the for sale section of woody's site(its linked in his post above) somebody has a used 2.5 inch skyjacker, maybe rancho lift for like $250. should alsready be broken in.

Thanks for the info.....I just ordered the 4 inch Skyjacker kit.

I did this based partly on a post saying not to spend a ton of money on a kit, because you'd most probably move up to a SOA kit later.

Thanks to all for the help!
