so heres a decent tech question.
how many of you guys have dropped a toy 22r engine into a series truck? (lets say an 80")?

i realise that this may be sacrelige to many of you purists out there but my series I can barely qualify as even "something resembling yet not entirely unlike tea"....

if i had a mostly pure 80 inch, it might be worth it to keep it all rover. and at $3+per gallon for gas, a small 4 cyl sounds real good.
so one question is, should i keep the stock rover tranny and bolt up the 22r and hope for the best or should i spend the thousands of dollars to adapt a toy motor to the sm 420 on my shop floor to the series tcase....or.....?

I can hook you up with the parts to put it back original, or you can mod it. Either way you are going to spend some cash. Alternatively I know folks that want the parts.

very tough call, cash is the one thing i don't have. it is really a basket case. i have no lights, gauges, seats, doors, bonnet, hood, tailgate, all of the brake parts and seals are very dead.........basically i have a straight tub, rust free frame and rust free bulkhead.

ike, as a last resort, i may sell. but i hate that idea. these things don't just fall out of trees.

which is a good thing because they are slightly heavy. :p

also, i would like something with better than 55hp and weighing in a 490 lbs mororwise. if it was close to original already and only needed a motor that would make more sense. it of course depends on whether your buddy would cut me a deal i could afford on the engine. is he just looking to get rid of it, or make a profit?

why not a GM 4.3L V6? lots of the toy guys are ditching their 22r's for this motor. good power, decent economy, should bolt right up to that transmission.

true, but what about the rest of the 60 year old drivetrain?

well if you are going with a gm motor and tranny why not a gm transfercase several you can chose from just need adapters for the driveshafts.

:( i have decided to sell. must buy tires for the buggy and cash is too tight to have two projects.

maybe in the next few years i will pick up running series truck and be like "ike". :flipoff2:
his grey beast on the mtrs is still my back ground on my computer as a motivator for better days ahead.
