out of a 91 cummins dodge, does anyone know anything about them and what it would take to bolt to a chevy v-8. A friend of mine wants to put a 5-speed in his 72 suburban and we have heard the only wink link in this tranny is 5 th gear lugged down( behind a cummins with a load) True or False

that has to be the most expensive manual tranny in the world to rebuild. they run 2k to have one rebuilt, i can buy a new nv4500 for 2300 at the dodge house, some times 2k even. i had one in a 93 dodge, it had just been rebuilt at 140k, i sold the truck at 227k and it was still fine. but everyone has been just swapping in nv 4500 for the past year or two. mike

My dad's gone through 7 of them in his 92 dodge, noisy bearings, popping out of gear, bad seals. #7 was the last one under warrenty, going to a nv5600

yeah i have heard they did not hold up well behind the diesel but sounds like it would not be that good of alternative to a nv4500 so thats probally what he will end up with

friend of mine had the input shaft bearing fail on his...he recommended getting an auto instead. I would recommend swapping in a NV5600.
