I ended up turning the bed from my 97 Taco into a trailer and am having trouble with the wiring. I would like to use the stock taillights, and use all of the correct bulbs, i.e. turn signals, reverse.ect.... I Need 6 wires to do it, but i don't want to use a regular 6 pin trailer connector because if someone needs to borrow it, they won't know that it's not a standard 6 pin, and i don't want to fry anything.

Does anyone have any ideas on what type of connector to use that won't get mixed up with a regular 6 pin trailer connector. I will also be wiring up a regular flat 4 connector incase anyone of my friends or family need to use it.

Thanks
Steve

I think this was covered before but couldn't find it via search. Am I correct in recalling there's an interface/adapter that makes the Taco vehicle wiring compatible with standard connectors? If so, that seems to be the best route to take.

Good luck on that one.

use a 7 pin.....
the 7th pin is for the backup lights..

What about seperate turn signals and brake lights? most of the trailer connectors seem to combine the Left Turn/Brake and Right Turn/Brake lights. I would like to seperate them since the taco brake lights and turn signals have seperate bulbs

Doh....I get it now. You want to maintain the stock split turn/brake lights on the trailer. This was where I was heading but I see where it won't solve your particular needs:

Taco Trailer Harness Conversion (4x4 only) (http://www.etrailer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=E&Product_Code=18379&Category_Code=VWH)

Sorry I can't help and how about posting up when you hit on the solution.
