Hey everone,
I'm considering swaping a 350 with a 700r4 tranny into my '69 FJ40 but first I have a few questions. The main question is what is this going to cost me? I have motor and tranny right now and I know that I can get the conversion kit from AA for $683. Also, (I think) I need the crossmember and motor mounts which will cost me another $300. But other than this what more do I need? The installation is not a problem because my uncle is a mechanic and he has already volenteered to help me put it in. All I really need is a ball-park figure and a list of major thing that go along with the conversion. I thank you in advance for the help.

Some things to think of:
1. Driveshafts.....Shorten rear/lengthen front
2. Radiator.......might need more cooling (mine did)
3. Transmission cooler
4. Engine and Transmission mounts
5. Wiring mods to make it all work
6. Double check the location of the engine before you pull the 6 cyl....It is offset to the drivers side slightly...try to put the new one on the same line so the driveshafts line up with the diff's

Get Advance Adapters book on conversions and read before you decide.

Is the engine injected? Way cool if it is.

You are going to need to have the output shaft on the 700R4 swapped to fit you LC transfer case. That cost me about $150.

Cooling fan(s)/shroud.

I had to fab up a radiator mount, tranny mount crossover, battery box, and some other "stuff".

Buy the AA tranny mount crossover. It is worth the $$, unless you want to spend about 4 hours figuring one out.

Thanks for the help. So the total cost is about $1,500 or so? I hope to start working on it later this week and I'll post again if I need some more help. Thanks again.
