Rick talked to the gentleman referenced in the previous post tonight in regard to Wellsville, OH (Yellow Creek) trails.
This particular gentleman is one of the landowners (there are several).
The basic situation is that the trash, burned cars, unattended campfires, rowdy behavior etc. has been out of control. There is one particular landowner that it at his rope's end in regard to this and is teetering on donating his 800 acres to Ohio DNR for a State Park - which would not be a good thing as far as 4x4 land use.
What is most likely to happen is tommorrow he (and others) are going to try to meet with the disgruntled landowner (and the other landowners) and convince him not to donate the land, that the land will become limited access. That there will be gates and only those with permission will be allowed to enter.
Basically, it is our feeling that having a limited access Wellsville is better than having no Wellsville to ride on. The gentleman has a buggy and likes to ride on the land also, and went on to say how if things remain as they are it will eventually be closed just like Hillsville & Bear Run have been closed.
Rick volunteered HRJA to help out in anyway with cleanup days, other services etc. He also mentioned that other area clubs have expressed interest in helping out also.
At one time, Western Reserve 4x4 club held a cleanup and wrote a check out for $1000 to have the garbage hauled away. That was well appreciated, they had held a *pay* event to help fund that, which wasn't liked to much, but it was a decent deal all around.
The gentleman does not want to make this a *business*, he wants to keep it simple. Not a pay to play place, just a permission required place. He has been there for 35 years.
We have his phone number and fax number. We are going to be writing a letter and faxing it to him tommorrow pledging HRJA's assistance in the future. If any other club director would like to do the same, please email me at events@hrja.org and I will email you the fax number and a copy of the letter which you are free to use verbatim if desired. He is going to take the letters with him tommorrow to help plead his case. He is optimistic that a resolution can be met.
