i was looking for a chip for my new truck and stumbled across this info.

i was thinking it would also apply to lifts and other stuff we do to our rigs

Will adding a Turbo-Chip void my factory warranty? You are protected by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975. Under the Magnuson-Moss Act, any aftermarket equipment which improves safety or performance, does not void a vehicle manufacturer's original warranty, unless the warranty clearly states, in the owner's manual, that these additional items void the warranty. The dealer must also prove that an added, aftermarket or safety item, caused the need for repairs before they can deny warranty coverage on that basis.

Hell ya that is a nice little law to take advantage of. Now all i need is the money for a brand new rig that has a warranty on it. :D:D:D:flipoff2:

but if you abuse the vechile they can strip you of your warrenty even if you have a extended one. so they try to say the chip didnt cause the problem but the owner was abusing it and the chip helped them do it.

What really sucks is when you have a newer vehicle that has a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty and it clearly states that any preformance mods will void it.:(
I of course don't happen to fall into this catagory.:D

A salesman once caught me under the front of a YJ (they were still making them then.. :D )

Got into a discussion.. came to warranty.. and at the end of it all, I asked incredulously, "So you mean if I take my JEEP, my 4x4, off-road, go-anywhere JEEP off the road.. you consider that "abuse" and "neglect" and my warranty is NULL and VOID?"

I wasn't really going to buy one anyhow.. but that made the decision EASY. :D

I've used the Magnuson-Moss Act to get work done under warranty on a few vehicles I've owned; only after lenghty arguments over the content of the unclear and/or ambiguous warranty statements.;)
Unless clearly stated in the warranty definitions, the onus is on the Dealer to prove the mods caused the damage, and are therefore not covered under warranty.
It's pretty important to know what your warranty says (yep, that means you have to read it), before you agree to the terms and buy the vehicle.

Just went throught that last friday. They were tying to tell me that the chip and lager exhaust caused my cam sensor to fry along with some other things. Well lets just say when I left I only paid the $100 dedutible and they said never to come back. Fine with me cause I am already leaving town. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

why give them the option, just swap the chip back to stock and bring it to the dealership. i know of one dumbass that was running a hot shot rig with about 20k on the trailer behind a dodge. burnt the motor down on a big hill. he had been running it 90 mph for about 1 hour. got pissed off and told the dealership to come pick it up. the dealer told him to get screwed, they took pics of the load and the chip and said tough shit. he had only made 3 payments on it. cost him 6k all because he was a dumb ass and didn't buy a egt gage. he might have been able to get a lawer and fight it, but i think he would have still lost because of the weight of the load. just anyone with a diesel, get a egt gage and watch it. any chip or fuel cam will raise your egt. mike
