: Pics of a very interesting Landcruiser
dog walker 03-12-2002, 07:13 PM I met this cat at Cal Rocks that owns TLC Restoration, I'm sorry but I forgot your name. Anyhoo, he let me check out this rig of his and take some pics. Who knows what it really is? I'll give you a hint, for most of you it's not really what it it looks like! Sloan or Henry, if you know what it is, don't chime in just yet!

MetalMender 03-12-2002, 07:25 PM And I belive that is a Banderantie (sp)?
Do I win :D
rich
reorx 03-12-2002, 07:25 PM Tell me you took some pics of the cool coilover suspension so we can drool over it!!
I'd love to have that as a daily driver, for sure!
dog walker 03-12-2002, 07:29 PM And I belive that is a Banderantie
Not exactly.
Jeff
FIXXXXAH 03-12-2002, 07:34 PM I know what it is...
Just Plain BAD ASS. :smokin:
what is it? :D
Matt
dog walker 03-12-2002, 07:43 PM After a little more guessing, I will let ya all know.
Jeff
orangefj45 03-12-2002, 07:50 PM it's a 2001 bandeirante on a late model tacoma frame (and running gear).
jonathan ward (of TLC fame) fedexed the body up from brazil and built it.
where's my prize, biatch?!
anyways, really cool rig and great pics. hoping to have one of these crew cabs make it to the 45 run!:D
CruzrDave 03-12-2002, 07:51 PM Is it a custom creation of TLC Restoration? Its left hand drive. What other countries have Bandos and drive on the right side of the road?:p Looks like some of those Austrailan Troopie cruisers I've seen.
Cruiser Ken 03-12-2002, 07:52 PM Bandie body on a taco?
CruzrDave 03-12-2002, 07:55 PM It's not one of a kind.
dog walker 03-12-2002, 08:07 PM Yeah I know it's not one of a kind, I got the scoop, but its not also just Banderaite on a Taco, it also is mixed up with mostly genuine LC parts. Who wants to hear how much one these pigs goes for?
Jeff
TxCruzr 03-12-2002, 08:22 PM Can I have one now?:D
Looks sweet...talk about a fun tow rig:D

60seriesguy 03-12-2002, 08:24 PM The cab, doors, bed, tailgate and most of the sheetmetal are pure Bandeirante crewcab, sheetmetal came from Toyota do Brasil as part of a deal that Jonathan Ward cooked up. I'm not 100% sure what the frame is out of, but I know Tacomas and Tundra drivetrain components were involved in the project. As I understand, one of these crewcab creations was built for Toyota USA as part of a design study (the other two being an OEM softtop SWB and a hardtop MWB), the other one is Jonathan Ward's personal ride.
In any case, I had a chance to check them out last year and they were *extremely* cool. Personally, I would have kept the brand-new 14B diesel engines that came with them, but I understand the deal with Toyota was that TLC would use drivetrain components that would meet US DOT and EPA certification.

Jonathan had a bunch of them at the Toyota Museum open house in LA last year. Recuerdo, Amigo? They drove in in a caravan of about 6 different rigs.
Not all of them were Bandirantes. Here is one of his upgraded 45 wagons:

My guess. Hmm, considering he sells the restored US trucks for $30K, I guess 60 large. That 45 wagon, BTW, is proberbly one of the sweetest Cruisers out there. The attention to detail/fit and finish is unfawkenbelievable.

BJ On Roids 03-12-2002, 09:09 PM yeah, thats what he wants...but do people ever buy them?
sweet looking extra cab 45 though, i like the styleside trays, alhotugh, im sure i had a photo of an fj45 from over here (a factory one) anyone know what happened to the 14Bs? i want one! arent they the engines that come in the megacruiser!
dog walker 03-12-2002, 09:26 PM I don't know if this is true or not, but he told me $250k! And yes the whole frame and running gear is of a Tacoma.

No. Megacruiser has the 15B-FTE, diesel, turbo-charged and intercooled, 4-valves/cyl and 150 hp. The 14B in The Bandeirante is a naturally asperated 3.6 liter 4cyl with 92 hp.
Ross
60seriesguy 03-12-2002, 09:44 PM BJ42, the 14B comes in some versions of the Toyota Dyna 2.5 ton truck, it is essentially the evolution of the 3B.
60seriesguy 03-12-2002, 09:46 PM Pin Head, the little gathering at the Toyota Vintage Vehicle Museum open house was *awesome*, Jonathan's line-up was certainly a drool fest! And *yes*, that green-and-cream FJ45 wagon is one of the nicest Land Cruisers I have ever seen, it made my top ten and has stayed there since! :)
BJ On Roids 03-12-2002, 10:14 PM cool, they also had a 13BT (i want one of these bad boys)
but yeah megacruiser is like 4.2 or 4.4 litre 4 cylinder...thats pretty big for a 4 cylinder (or even one of these) more juice than a 1HZ
92HP is okay, mine made 140 something with turbo, thats, VERY boosted though, my 2H should be making around 150HP or more, but its running very lean, and ive gotta let it have some!
boondocker 03-13-2002, 12:03 AM Although I can not afford this rig, I admire TLC for all their creations. Maybe one day, I'll have them work on my 71 FJ40.
wngrog 03-13-2002, 03:32 AM I drooled over that sucker last year on my trip to TLC. I like his blue one better that had solid axles front and rear instead of the IFS.
I could swear it was Tundra stuff, not Tacoma stuff though. I know it had a V8 from Toyota..
wngrog 03-13-2002, 03:32 AM Cool

How many guys work at that shop? He puts out more vehicles than I realized. He seems to do all right in a pretty specialized market. It is not like he restores muscle cars:smokin:
