ive read the 14 bolt bible and am not ready to do the spicer conversion but i do want to use ubolts on my 14 bolt instead of the straps and bolt. Ive heard drilling out the stock yokes and using ubolts on other kinds of trucks is there a way to do it on 14 bolts???

Why not just use straps? same stuff just idiot proof, my local drive lineshop stopped stocking most U bolt style straps i guess too many people wrenched on em too hard and wore out the U joint pretty fast. just my $.02

I've been running the strap style on my 14FF for years now and never had any problems running 38's and dual lockers, though I can't say the same for steering arms or 30-spline Dana 60 stubs.........

because they can stretch. I have ripped apart 2 sets of straps on my 14. 44's and plenty of throttle and a big bounce each time. I would love to find u bolts that fit mine and that fit my dana 80 factory yoke on my '00 dodge. straps stretched on that one too, second yoke it has happened to. :mad3:

lol im an idiot.. i never thought you could over tighten them. but thinking of it now, it makes sense. .. What are they suppose to be Torqued to?
i havent worn out a u joint yet. but id rather just torque them right...

The problem is the backside of the yoke isn't flat. If you buy the yokes from NorthwestFab they come pre-machined for a flat nut torquing surface.

42s, 5.13s, detroits and I lose u-joints and yokes way before the strap kits go out. Although I do get a new kit everytime the rear driveline comes out with something broken.

I also like the u-bolts because you can still get them out after you bust a u-joint. Must of the time I have broken u-joints it eather screws up the bolts or brakes them off in the yoke. With the u-bolt they come right out and can be replaced.
I used u-bolts from a rear 205 1350 yoke, then drilled the holes & dieground the back flat. This next time I am going to use my buddys milling machine to make the machining easier.
Edit...on the same note...I also like to weld fill end caps on the yokes because I have broken those little end keepers off.
