Alright, getting ready to bring my 89 YJ into california.
I am running a 78 Corvette small block with stuff(385hp of stuff). What do I need to do to get it road/smog legal? Anyone know? I am in the Placerville area if that helps... if I can't get it with this motor, I have a Vortech big block to drop in!

Freaking eco-nazi's can :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Both motor's will not fly !!!!!

Unless you know some one!
and that is highly watched these days!

you need 89 or newer Motor and it cannot be over 8600 GVWR
vehicle Donor unless you know of some Chevy truck that came with 454 and it was 1/2 ton:rolleyes:
but we all know that Ain't true!
and so do they!
you can not put heavy duty motor into a 1/2 ton chasis

and the 78 well forget it! too much trouble!

Adam,

Got a 92 Chevy 454 SS motor.... it's a 1/2 ton pick up. I guess I'll go that route. Or pick up a later model small block. I really don't want to go through all those freaking hoops, trying to cool a 454 in my YJ.

I was also told before I did my engine swap that you had to use the tranny out of the vehicle that donated the engine! I havent had to go to the ref yet on my swap but smog is comming up real soon. Just something you might want to check out or maybe someone on here would have more info on that .

Hmn, I don't have the tranny. I am running a Th350. The 454SS was a manual and that's long gone...

I always thought that you could just tell them that the swap was done a long time ago and it would be grandfathered in. You would still have to meet the codes for that year of engine but you might be able to get away with it. Tell them that the swap was done in Nevada, we don't have any smog laws over here. I just droped a 350 in my cj-7 and I tore off all of the smog crap. The cops don't care what you do here. I think that you can get grandfathered in though. You might want to hit up the DMV for all of the laws on stuff like that.
