Ummm... I'm a little confused by your post. You have a '97 F250HD 4x4. Shouldn't that already have a solid axle in front?:confused::confused:

No Paul all F-250HD's came stock with IFS front suspension unless special ordered with solid axle(super rare).. It was not until 1999 that Ford went back to solid axle in the "superduty" F-250's... and those really stink!!! Dana 50 with axles that taper down to size of Dana 44 axles. but I need help with leaf springs !!!! PS is it cold in BC ??ya i see stupid question right?

Nope, the 97 is still the old body style, and will have the D50 TTB. I like the 6" Skyjacker softrides. ride great and work good. Don't forget that if you get the 350 6" lift it will be close to 8" on your 250. Also if you want a few more inches out of it, do a shackle reversal.

Thanks, now I'm not confused anymore. :) Must have been F350's I was thinking about.

Yes it has been unseasonably cold here the past couple of weeks. Global warming my ass!

I don't think you will get that much lift out of them. Even my 6" front springs are about the same as stock rear springs. The new rear springs do hold alot of weight, and they are arched fairly hard.

Trust me, you don't wanna swap front and rear springs unless you're looking for some serious wheelbase mods. Front springs have center pin offset about 2" forward, while rear springs are offset about 6" forward. You _can_ drill spring steel if you've got lots of cutting oil and lots of patience.

EDIT: oh yeah, the shackle reversal will definitely give you a couple inches. But please don't pay $400 for ORU's kit, I might cry if someone paid that much for a little plate welded to a little tubing.
