Anyone know if the Avalanche D60 Crossover Hy Steer will work ok with just 4" of lift of a K30 4x4? Or is more lift needed?

Any opinions about which is better, the OffRoadDesign D60 crossover or the Avalanche HySteer crossover?

Thanks
Walter

Here is my Avalanche D60 hi-steer with hydro assist (K5) with 5" of suspension lift, it will work but it is very tight, I also installed a new crosssmember so I could run a straight drag link.

I also have ran the ORD cross-over, as far as which is better it really depends on what you want, if you want a simple and strong cross-over that was built for a GM then ORD, if you want to go hi-steer with adjustabilty then Avalanche.

The hydro kit I used is from http://westtexasoffroad.com I had to use a Howe ram in order to have enough room to mount under the tierod which is the only place you can mount it on a GM with that small of a lift and histeer (crossmember directly behind tierod).

Steve,
I saw your review on CK5, I like the setup (very nice). I think I used the wrong wording when I asked which is 'better', they are probably both equal, just different. My main concern is that I will only be running 4" of lift. From what I've read on CK5 there seems to be a few running the ORD with 4" of lift, some even less, and one fellow said he runs ORD with no lift and it works fine. I haven't heard that much about the Avalanche setup and if there is a minimum lift recommended.

I'm pretty sure you need to run a lift - and I've been told close to 4" so your drag link won't interfere. Plus you might have to trim/bend your crossmember for clearance.

If your running the stock crossmember I wouldn't do it unless you had at least 4" of lift, as far as Avalanche or ORD it doesn't matter which one you use you still have to get over to the passenger side steering arm.

So if you custom fab an xmember - how much lift could you get away with?

If were talking hi-steer I would say 3" is about min but that might not be enough because the pitman arm would prolly contact the tierod, for just crossover with custom crossmember maybe 2-3" but don't know for sure. I know Pete runs crossover with only 3" of lift so maybe he can coment.

I run an early Avalanche arm w/ crossover, no high steer. Have looked into it, don't remember if I was too lazy to figure it out, or too cheap, or both (what I suspect).

I run a stock cross member with a bent (ghetto) drag link. I would probably recommend a new crossmember over a bent link, hydro assist would make the bent link more acceptable. If you need to bent the link only for TRE operating angles, do it right near the ends, and use TREs with a short pen.

Also with small lifts, spring to pitman arm clearance becomes an issue. I run a Scout OE pitman arm, cut to length and drilled for heim use. It tucks up nicely to the frame, though it could stand to be a little wider where the hole is drilled. Again, hydro assist would make this less of an issue. One advantage to heims in this application is that by putting the bolt down from the top, you can get closer to the frame than if you have a TRE stud poking up, castle nut, etc.

Thanks! That's what I was looking for.
