Just bought a 98 cr250 40 minutes on the rebuild, milled head, new top and bottom end boydsen reeds et.c etc. the guy ran klots 50:1 and not sure in gearbox. BUt what do you all recommend? I've heard that klots gums up the piston and if the bike sits it separates and willalso clog the carb. First Two stroke so just trying to get some info on it. ALso do I change the gearbox as freqent as a four stroke?

36:1 is about a perfect ratio for most 2 strokes, I run 32:1 PJ1 in my KX 250 with close to stock jetting and it runs great. As far as the gearbox goes, change the oil every other ride with what is recommended in your owner's manual. Clean your air filter every other ride too and make sure it has a good seal in the airbox.

I think I'm going to give this stuff a try. It sounds pretty good.

I use ams for my mix, I run 35:1 for my RM 250 and like everyone else said change gearbox every other is ideal I race and I change it after every 4 motos. Also make sure you clean your airfillter after EVERY ride, your topend will last much longer.

Everybody has there own opinion on two stroke oils, i like motorex at 50 to 1. As far gearbox oils pick a good two stroke gear box oil, i've run honda, motorex and motul all with good results. I would stay away from a full synthetic here. Check to see if you have aluminum or steel clutch plates. Aluminum plates will require frequent oil changes and the oil will always look dark and gray. Steel plates the oil will look clean and then you can up the interval between oil changes.
